I was underwhelmed with 'the boy is mine' initially because I was hoping it would sound much more like 'fantasize', but it very quickly became a favourite. Good one to get things popping. Was really expecting it to become a bigger hit than it was. It's actually surpassed my streams for '7 rings', 'Dangerous Woman' and '34+35' to name a few. (Streams 324)

Speaking of 'yes, and?'... cheeseblock

The extended version came on shuffle for me yesterday and is my preferred iteration, fleshing out the instrumental even more!

I do love ethereal Ari but this house swerve was quite fun. Love the slick choreography in the video too. How annoying that it was blocked from #1 here despite doing over 70k sales but at least she got there in the U.S. clap

My #1 song of 2024! cheer

It does feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the album but I don't care.

Ari said she could only justify including it by making it the lead single and I'm so glad that she did.

The long intro with that beat drop in 'yes, and?' had me instantly hooked. An all time favourite of mine, think it was and is still so underappreciated. I remember dancing topless and doing unspeakable things to this in a gay club in San Francisco, so I guess the great memories stay with me too. (Streams 519) THAT'S CRAZY, when have I had the time?! Iconic bridge too.

We conclude the single section with what seems to be the universal favourite.

Love the (very) direct references to the film in this video. Ari showing why she was to become an Oscar-nominated actress!

I wasn't in the mood for this when it came out because I didn't want to hear sad songs, but my God what a career and pop highlight, the fact it didn't win a grammy is kind of criminal. It'll be one I come back to time and time again over the years, even if it's sobbing after one too many glasses of wine. (Streams 405).

'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' is my favourite on the album and top tier Ari overall for me wub

The Robyn-esque synths were a surprising but welcome move. Her vocals sound so angelic (especially on the bridge!!) and I like the dual themes about love and critics. The Eternal Sunshine... themed video is gorgeous too.

Déjà vu with another US #1 and UK #2 lol

This is another one of those songs that Ari has said that she will never perform live. It's a shame because I think it could be such a moment. The little crack in her voice during this is heartbreaking.

This part of the album is hard to listen to when you're sad, my goodness, I've cried over this a few times. Coming into this after the previous track is such a gut punch. (Streams 76). Her voice breaking at the end GETS me.

This is another huge favourite for me!

I particularly love the unusual modulation choice when she sings the title.

The SNL performance for this was stunning wub

Ari has said that this is her fave from the album. I wouldn't go that far but I do think it's great.

Really grown to love this, was the track that took me the longest to warm to, though there isn't really a song I don't love on here except 'true story' perhaps, though even that's harsh since both are 8/10s for me (Streams 57).

The only feature we're going to hear today wub

I love the fact that she received a plaque for being the 'first senior citizen to reach the Billboard Hot 100' lol

It's the perfect outro for the standard version.

Oh woops, I retract my last statement. THIS is the track that I took longest to warm to. I forgot it existed hahaha!! (Streams 38)
