The Sleep Token song is a very interesting track, nice to see it doing well! I'm intrigued that they don't box themselves into one genre, the sound of this new song caught me off guard based on the previous single, the first half of it gave me Bastille vibes which I didn't expect at all. I enjoy the way it changes up too.

Ed evidently isn't the day one draw he used to be with new material, but there have been various warning signs stretching back for the last few years that this was the case. But he always turns very commercial sounding stuff into big hits eventually, so I wouldn't write him off too soon. Miley's I'd expect to see grow from that debut as more people hear it, even if it drops back initially.

Surprised at how well Rudimental/Khalid are doing!

Rudimental/Khalid are pretty high on Apple's Today's Hits - that's usually the explanation if something is randomly higher on that chart!

Obviously Ed has lost his crazy first day dominance but debuting at 7 is still great considering how long he has been in the industry.

I wouldn't say it's game over I can see Azizam sticking around and I'm assuming the label / Ed think this too as the physicals and the official video are out at a later date (Video has been shot) so I'm assuming they predicted it would grow?

Disappointed with Miley 48 isn't great so I hope that can climb.

I think it's game over for all big name artists coming back

the kids only care about tiktok now and don't care about big names

never in my wildest dreams I would have predicted Sleep Token at #2 and Ed just at #7 with only 300K or Miley low top 50!!

I think the success of Flowers messes up people's expectations with Miley. None of her solo singles since that has gone top ten. And overall she has had two this decade (Flowers and Midnight Sky). That said, low top 50 on Spotify is still pretty bad.

But both Spotify performances (Miley and Ed) are in line with Apple Music, so that is where these artists currently stand.

Incredible for Sleep Token especially in the US they did 1.5 million streams and just 100K away from #1

Miley is #26 in the US but Ed is only #60, beaten by people like Marias or Laufey's newbies

I'd say 7 is a pretty respectable debut for Ed, I did say on Friday it's catchy but doesn't sound massive but it definitely feels like one those annoying hits that gets stuck the more you hear it can definitely see it sticking around or climbing

Ed Sheeran only debuted at 30 on Spotify in Ireland. I know it’s only a debut but that seems a shocking debut for someone who was absolutely massive there up to a few years ago

It's the same all over the world, and it's been years this way, so it's not shocking anymore, we just need to understand that, it takes time to realize how someone who was the biggest in the world, isn't anymore.

Happened to Katy Perry and a lot of others also (of course he's still huge and way above her, but just as an example)

I think #7 is respectable enough for Ed. It's likely to drop second day though, isn't it? So waiting to see the fall from that.

Didn't Ariana's twilight zone go in mid Top 10 and then crumble.

Isn't Ariana quite a massive name as well? Though I know it was only a deluxe for her, it was still a brand new song.

More surprised at Miley, and disappointed too as it's a brilliant song. Hope that can climb.

The problem for Ed is that he has huge promo. BBC articles, ITV news segments. Ads on TikTok, open top bus through London and it’s a pretty catchy decent song and had the best playlisting possible and still had pretty underwhelming numbers so all that combined kind of points in the direction he’s either more an album artist now or people just don’t need any more Ed Sheeran and we’ve got the best out of him already. Some will say it’s jumping the gun and too soon but this guy was dominating billboard and now can’t break top 200 on Apple Music in the US, this guy caused the OCC to change the chart because he had so many songs charting and now 300k? Yeah it’s a different era

This is way over the top, just because he didn't go straight in at number 1 doesn't mean he's completely washed. I don't even like the guy's music and am happy for his domination to end but he's not going to become just "an albums artist" at the drop of a hat like you're suggesting. And as I've mentioned in the past traditional marketing doesn't make nearly as big of a difference as before for streaming. It's not even like the debut is that colossal of a fall-off anyway, the way you're going about it it's like he didn't debut top 40!

There's a lot of room between "entire album in UK top 20" and "career over, people have moved on" - let's learn some nuance please because people clearly haven't entirely moved on from Ed when his tour collection has been top 10 almost every week since it came out, proving a strong interest in his back catalogue, and the new single is possibly on for a UK top 5 debut. Not as big as before? Sure, but there's clearly still a lot of interest in him.
