If any new release from a commercial artist can't beat a 37-week old song to #1 then it has no place being there anyway.

Looks like a potential #1 next week!

Honestly this - if any of us were working for an artist/label and had the opportunity to extend a #1 to a month at the top we’d all be pulling out all the stops - even if it upset a handful of forum chart stans.

An artist like Sam might never trouble for a #1 single again so fair play for them keeping him there as long as possible.

All that being said I think it’ll be #1 this week anyway with or without the addition of some extra vinyl (assuming they only dropped around 500 as they sold out in an hour).

If they’re that bothered about being number 1, they should’ve bothered when the song first came out or within a few months rather than deciding to milk the song now. If Olivia is signed to the same label, they should turn their focus to her and help So Easy to finally reach number 1 rather than favouring Sam. It’s also pointless buying the single on vinyl if you already have his album

It wasn’t anywhere near to being #1 when first released and I’m sure they were not expecting it to be an organic sleeper hit or challenge for the #1 months later.

From a business point of view of course they will add some effort in when it did get to #1 (as a side note they done nothing extra to get it to the top and only released vinyl and a new version of the video for week 3), even without the release of the vinyl it would have still easily been #1 last week and likely the same this week.

And it’s not pointless buying the single on vinyl if you are a fan or collector, especially as the Olivia version is not on the original version of ‘People Watching’ and only on the Christmas issued deluxe version.

They tried to get ‘So Easy’ to number one with gimmicky heart shaped vinyl and it didn’t work.

Also Olivia should have performed So Easy at the BRITs instead of Man I Need for whatever reason so it's her own fault she missed the chance for So Easy to be #1.

I agree. Had she performed So Easy rather than Man I Need, she would’ve been in contention for number 1

Also given the very muted effect of the Brits this year, I'm doubtful a 'So Easy' performance would've made that much difference.

I seriously doubt that, the BRITs boost was minimal for everyone involved this year and it ended up 24k behind Rein Me In last week (which was also not performed).

I don't think a performance on a show watched by 2 million people would have added 25k sales.

It gave Harry a big rebound back into the top 10 although admittedly that was a newer song.

Plus you never know if a performance can rise above the average, like how well did all the other performed songs do in Someone Like You's and You Got The Dirtee Love's respective years?

I feel like those examples were so long ago that they just wouldn't happen now, viewing figures were four times higher for a start. It would have to go massively viral on TikTok now to impact, and for such a mega hit, the performance of Man I Need didn't create a whole lot of buzz compared to the likes of Rosalía, so not sure So Easy would have been that different.

Harry's rise was 8k week on week so So Easy would have needed triple the impact at least to overcome Rein Me In. Not that we will ever know now of course, but I can't remember seeing any rise of that proportion in the streaming era following a British TV performance?

Why can you still not understand songs don’t necessarily always peak in week one??
