Did a little experimenr using my friends Amazon Music account and Alexa, was curiouswhat was played and if AI was involved. to put it in context my friend mainly listens to alt females like Ethel Cain, Julien Baker, Fiona Apple and doesnt follow current music, didnt know who Ed sheeran or Alex Warren are…

Alexa play music:

1 Alex Warren- Ordinary, 2 Ed wSheeran- Sapphire, 3 AlexWarren - Eternity

Alexa play music to chill in the sofa:

1 Alex Warren-ordinary, 2 Bruno mars-Apt, 3 Chappel - Pink pony club, 4 Ed sheeran-Sapphire, 5 Alex Warren-Carry you home

Alexa play background music for studying

1 Alex Warren-ordinary, 2 Tones&I- Dance monkey 3 Chappel-The giver 4 Alex Warren-Eternity

So my conclusions… doesnt seem to be based on what you normally listen… seems random and not 100% fit, I mean, Dance Monkey and The Giver as study songs!! And also very biased for the same artists, 6/12 (50%) being Alex Warren!!

Overall, autoplay on Spotify seems much better at least plays related music, this is too random

And too biased

  • Alex Warren transcends all moods.

  • That's true with many popular songs though especially by relatively new/breakthrough artists, the general population wouldn't be able to tell you who the singer is. I bet most of last year when Sabrin

My biggest takeaway here is that they'd never heard of Ed Sheeran 🤯

Never was a fan of Alexa's algorithm at all. Something about it always seems off. LOL

(Also not mentioning ROSÉ in 'APT.' is like not mentioning Mark Ronson in 'Uptown Funk'. My pet peeves are being slightly tested. 🫣)

So alexas to blame for ordinary 🙄

Also backs up my comment.t in the other thread that most people that know ordinary dont even know who Alex Warren is

I'd say Sabrina is much more recognisable and everybody actually knows her, Alex Warren is far more anonymous.

I just find it hard to believe those results. Alexa doesn’t even work like that she chooses a station or playlist depending on what you ask.

I repeated Bjork’s chill in the sofa

Alexa played the station “laid back pop”

These were in order the first 10 songs

  1. Pink pony club

  2. Taste

  3. Arms length

  4. There she goes

  5. The greatest love story

  6. Beautiful day (myles smith)

  7. The door

  8. Dark red

  9. Twilight zone

  10. Skin and bones

13 weeks at #1 would suggest he isn't anonymous however his lack of exposure physically in the UK is very true. He hasn't exactly appeared anywhere until a few weeks ago when he did some radio interviews and the Live Lounge which was past the peak of the song.

I don’t use Amazon but I’ll take an experiment with a sample size of 1 with a pinch of salt.

Presumably if Amazon played rubbish to everyone they’d lose customers so they have an interest in playing what people want to hear. I accept there could be other interests in play, as there no doubt are for all streaming services. Remember the endless discourse about Spotify and “autopayola” last year?

Yeah I did the other two requests bjork claims to have asked. Said play music

Amazon played “hits uk on Amazon music”

The first 10

  1. A little more

  2. The subway

  3. Golden

  4. Daisies

  5. Family matters

  6. Dior

  7. No broke boys

  8. Ordinary

  9. There she goes

  10. Blessings

I tried background music for studying but she just kept trying to play a jazz playlist so pointless.

Either way the results pretty different. The only song to be played twice was there she goes which is an Amazon original so makes sense. It can be based on what you listen to depending on what you ask but mostly it’s stations or playlists. The fact bjork with a bizarre agenda that Alexa has a crush on Alex warren found 6/12 songs Alexa played were Alex warren seems complete fiction. I can guarantee nobody else would get those results.

In March he did a lot of shows and pubs in the UK and was getting thousands at tube stations and that’s before even the song went to #1 but yeah with Alex it’s more about the artistry and quality of music than the glitz and glamour of celebrity than say a Sabrina
