Friday at 08:172 days Author Demi Lovato she hasn't been seen on the playlist since 2020 (or 2018 as lead artist!)Good to see Conan moving up and the continued support for Perrie, I wasn't sure if they'd add it or not... but I knew if they wanted to they would
Friday at 08:192 days Oh wow, they actually are supporting Demi after all!I wonder why they skipped over 'Fast'?
Friday at 09:012 days Jade tracks still on the playlist? I thought Unconditional was chosen as the latest single which if it is, they should remove her album tracks and playlist Unconditional

Friday at 09:362 days Perrie getting added fantastic but hopefully not too lateNot suprised jade still on the tracks treatment as wasn't it same for sabrina (although BYBMH needs the slot next week 🤣)Yay for Demi too
Friday at 14:312 days Yay for RAYE, Perrie and Reneé! They should just A-list ‘All This Time’! Edited Friday at 20:222 days by James.
Yesterday at 07:471 day Surprised to see Demi added again, thought they were done with her but follow Tom Odell as well this year shows anything is possible. Also nice adds for Lewis, Raye and The Last Dinner Party. The Syth is great!!

Yesterday at 08:261 day Ah right I see, didn’t Tom Odell get added as he was playing the BW but still is getting A List support?

Yesterday at 09:271 day I think it's interesting Calvin still A-Lists. I remember Robbie Williams in 2013 called out R1 for ageism for not playing 'Candy' when he was 39. Calvin is now cruising at 41. But it does feel like the anonymous nature of dance music allows you to swerve ageism in a way pop can't.
Yesterday at 09:491 day David Guetta is far older than Calvin too, and he’s just been A-Listed (and headlined their Malta event!) But yes I agree, dance producers are quite ageless in a way.
Yesterday at 14:251 day Yeh dance and metal/rock seem to make you immune to removal at R1 probably as people say due to its facelessness albeit I would argue Calvin is fairly well known. I would say a big factor is the style of music and its appeal to younger people in terms of its radical nature or spirit. A Robbie Williams track prob wouldn’t suit the R1 playlist in 2025 as its MOR pop a lot of the time. He’s playing live lounge this month and I would doubt he will be playlisted like Demi for example, would be happy to be proven wrong though.
Yesterday at 21:051 day I was hoping Lola Young would get the ‘Tracks from’ treatment but I guess the title isn’t appropriate for radio. Speaking of Lola Young how long have Radio 1 supported her for?
Yesterday at 21:071 day I’ve been listening to her since her first song but not sure if R1 playlisted her since that.I check the R1 playlist archives and it didn’t say “First Time Add’ last November when Messy was first added. Can @Mangø shed any light? Edited yesterday at 21:101 day by Steve201

22 hours ago22 hr If/when Calvin stops getting such big hits, he'll lose support. No sign of this happening so far though, he seems to follow up every relative flop with a smash. And his image is completely different to Robbie's in 2012. Plus Radio 1 were really pushing the ageism thing then. They welcome us over-30s now even if they're not actively targeting us, back then Ben Cooper was celebrating "scaring off the over-30s", even though he was well over 30 himself, the bloody hypocrite. He literally said he'd "probably always" listen to it himself because he always wanted to hear the next big thing! It's all ridiculous anyway, you've got young kids streaming Fleetwood Mac, plus people in their forties are heavily into lots of R1 playlist stuff, often because it doesn't sound much different to what they grew up with anyway - and lots of it is on Radio 2 as well. Some things sound like music from BEFORE I was born, including several tracks on the current playlist we're talking about right now!Radio 1 shouldn't be a "youth" station, it should be a "youthful" one. Some people feel and act young at 60, and some 25-year-olds might as well be drawing their pensions. It should just concentrate on being a "new music" station, and that will naturally attract young listeners anyway. If Capital want more listeners, they can fight for them via great unmissable content. Why should the BBC hand them over on a plate? I bet it has more listeners over 30 than under 30. They also have a 65-year-old DJ. Obviously some new music isn't suitable for the station but you can just use your common sense to decide what sounds old and tired and what doesn't, and what will actually sound good and powerful on high-energy daytime radio. I'm 42 and I do dip into Radio 2 as well but then sometimes something new but pointless like Chrissie Hynde and K.D. Lang covering Me & Mrs Jones will come on like it did when I listened this week and I'll think "oh FFS do we HAVE to, I'm not 8768716 years old!".Radio 1 really should have definitely playlisted Candy though. It was ironically debuted on there, was #1 for two weeks and they'd have been all over it if it'd been exactly the same but by Olly Murs! Edited 22 hours ago22 hr by HiyaLuv!
22 hours ago22 hr None of the new adds blowing my head off by the way. Nice to see Demi back but it's more of a meh rewrite of Physical by Dua Lipa than Cool For The Summer II.Where is My Husband! has fun old-skool Beyonce/Amerie vibes but might take a few more listens.I do approved of exclamation marks in song titles though.
