February 5Feb 5 Author Robbie Williams, Glasgow review: 'indie aspirations'By Fiona ShepherdMusic criticRobbie Williams, Barrowland, Glasgow ★★★In less than a year, Robbie Williams has downsized from playing a rugby stadium to headlining this rather more intimate heritage venue - not a reflection of his pulling power, but of his cultural muscle. After all, he can now claim, should he wish to spin it thus, that he is bigger than The Beatles, having just beaten their record for most UK Number One albums with his latest release Britpop.Robbie Williams, Barrowland, Glasgow, 4 February 2026 | Calum BuchanWilliams has said that Britpop is the album he wanted to make at the start of his solo career; perhaps this is the sort of venue he imagined playing. With rock band in tow, he strolled onstage wearing a Primal Scream t-shirt as if to acknowledge his indie aspirations and seemed comfortable throughout for the fans to see the whites of his eyes. For this “club” tour, Williams is honouring both ends of his career. First up, a zip through debut album Life Thru A Lens, starting with Lazy Days, a bit of an indie bruiser from back in the day.Robbie Williams, Barrowland, Glasgow, 4 February 2026 | Calum BuchanAs per the track listing, Angels landed early with Williams handing vocal duties over to the crowd while Old Before I Die, typical of his cheeky lyrical turn, was a jovial singalong with the audience riding the key change. Elsewhere, the lairy Ego A Go Go, inspired by Gary Barlow, and classy Ballad Killing Me, showed some range. Along the way, he reflected on his past smugness and delivered his “most middle-aged performance” of Let Me Entertain You.Although it took several singles to hit paydirt, it remains a strong pop collection. Maybe he really did start his career with some Britpop. As he launched in to his latest album, he wondered if the new songs had connected yet - Rocket went hell-for-leather, Pretty Face was certainly memorable enough and he relished the sub-Oasis swagger of Spies while his odd ode to Morrissey (co-written with Barlow) backed up his assertion that “my career has been built on audacity and a wink”. And some infernally catchy songsRobbie Williams, Glasgow review: 'indie aspirations'

The former Take That man performed in front of a crowd of less than 2,000 starry-eyed fans at the Tuebrook venue in a departure from his usual stadium and arena tours.Robbie performed his latest album, Britpop, in full. The album, which was released in January, recently made Robbie a record-breaker, overtaking The Beatles with the most official UK number one albums ever, according to the Official Charts Company.Robbie will also perform his debut solo album, Life Thru a Lens, from start to finish. His debut album featured huge hits such as Angels and Let Me Entertain You, which shot the singer to global stardom.During the show Robbie paid tribute to the city by wearing a Brookside t-shirt. He then changed into a Surprise, Surprise t-shirt, the TV programme once hosted by Cilla Black. He also referenced the Fab Four and dedicated a song to Atomic Kitten, the four-piece girl group formed in Liverpool.Robbie went viral this week for sharing a video of Greasby teacher Jemma Williamson. The 48-year-old featured on the new Take That documentary which dropped on Netflix last week. In archive footage, Jemma is seen with a group of friends outside HMV in Chester in the early 1990s. The then 14-year-old uses the camera crews to attempt to share her phone number with Robbie Williams.Robbie posted a clip of the moment on his own social media channels, and attempted to give the number a call, which has since been viewed more than three million times. The ECHO made a photographer in attendance during tonight's show to capture the moment the history maker took to the stage. February 7Feb 7 Author Robbie Williams' four word answer to question at stellar Liverpool Olympia gigStory by Sophie McCoidRobbie Williams performs on stage at the Liverpool Olympia© Reach Publishing Services LimitedAs someone who grew up in Stoke-On-Trent, Robbie Williams has always held something of a God-like status in my mind. I've been lucky enough to see him on several occasions over the years and been bowled over every time by his showmanship, vocals and command of an audience, so when the opportunity arose to see him in an intimate gig in Liverpool, it's safe to say I was excitedThis excitement was tempered by a slight apprehension that without all the bells and whistles of a stadium show, could Robbie still bring it? - but within seconds of the Olympia gig starting any fears were swept away as he swaggered onto stage with his trademark smirk and confident manner. The crowd roared as he unzipped a red tracksuit to reveal a Brookside top, and energetically launched into Lazy Days, the first song from his first album Life Thru a Lens.Robbie Williams performs on stage at the Liverpool Olympia© Liverpool ECHOFor this Robbie gig wasn't your usual hit-packed stadium show; the Angels star performed the entirety of his first album, followed by his most recent and 16th number one album Britpop - which he claims is the record he always wanted to write after leaving Take That, but never got the chance to.he audience, many of whom had clearly followed Robbie since the 90s, were treated to a trip back in time as Robbie explained his inspiration for many of the songs on his first album. Guy Chambers, Robbie's long term writing partner, was also on stage playing guitar and Robbie called for the audience to cheer for him on many occasions. When the time came for Angels, arguably Robbie's best known song, the audience sang the first verse as the 51-year-old conducted us from the stage. It was a very special moment and you could feel the electricity in the room as the crowd appreciated the uniqueness of the gig. Let me Entertain You was another highlight as Robbie joked that the song was "mint" but that the audience would have to sing the chorus because he was feeling "middle aged".Robbie Williams performs on stage at the Liverpool Olympia© Reach Publishing Services LimitedRobbie knows how to get a crowd onside and he made several references to Liverpool, fondly remembering his hedonistic days in Cream and Quadrant Park. He said: "Thank you Liverpool for some of the last great evenings exploring the nether regions of my mind. I remember singing a million love songs on Top of the Pops on a Thursday and then raving in Cream on a Saturday, I was living two different lives, but I always felt safe in Liverpool."Another powerful moment of the evening was when Robbie performed his poem Hello Sir, dedicated to his teachers who thought he would never "amount to much." It brought goosebumps to my arms and the crowd roared as he finished.Robbie Williams performs on stage at the Liverpool Olympia© Reach Publishing Services LimitedFollowing a short interlude Robbie returned to stage, wearing a Cilla Black Surprise Surprise top, to perform his most recent number one album, which makes him the most successful solo artist ever, knocking The Beatles off their perch with 15 number one records. Robbie was due to release it the same week that Taylor Swift put out her "Life of a Showgirl" album but as Robbie honestly told the crowd he decided to move the release date because "no way" was he going up against her when the 16th number one was at stake.nd Britpop is worth the wait. It's an album packed with hits and considering it's only been out a few weeks, many of the crowd seemed to know every word. The songs that got the most reaction were "Pretty Face" written about his wife Ayda, "All my Life" and "It's Ok Until the Drugs Stop Working" and the final song "Selfish Disco" went down a real storm. For all his bravado Robbie has been honest in the past about his crippling insecurities and mental health struggles . As he was playing his second album he asked the audience: "Do you like it? Have I still got it?" and following a huge cheer from the crowd he answered his own question by saying: "I've still got it".Yes Robbie you certainly do.Rating: 4.5/5Source Robbie Williams' four word answer to question at stellar Liverpool Olympia gig
