They did last year. For the week ending 28 November Mariah was at 24 and Wham at 31 wth loads of others outside the Top 50.

It entered on its 3rd week, peaked at 5 and fell out on week ending 30th October

It’s so funny to me that the East 17, Spice Girls and Steps songs have become Christmas classics purely because they have snow in the music videos.

S Club 7 as well lol. But weren't they all released around Christmas, and also marketed sort of as "Christmas songs"? Some of them Christmas #1? So they will have become associated with Christmas because of that. I know it doesn't make much sense, but its not JUST because of snow in the videos imo. Even Alexandra Burke's version of Hallelujah or Lily Allen's version of Somewhere Only We Know get boosts at Christmas. There are people out there who just associate those songs with it now.

^ John Lewis ads by association always get linked with Christmas as well.

True, just funny to me that music that can (and typically does) get listened to all year round just becomes canonised as Christmas music as well.

On Apple biggest holiday playlist "Christmas Hits" all of those six aforementioned tracks are there, alongside other less obvious non-Christmas songs but are apparently associated with the winter months now - Sugababes "Too Lost In You"; Labrinth & Emeli Sande's Beneath Your Beautiful"; One Direction's "Night Changes"; Paloma Faith's "Only Love Can Hurt Like This", Little Mix’s "Love Me Like You" and James Arthur & Anne Marie cover of "Rewrite the Stars"

“Too Lost in You” always reminds me of this time of year because of Love Actually - the others are definitely less obvious (although Night Changes does have winter vibes)

I will forever love music TV programmers for doggedly clinging on to Wizzard and Slade over the playlist pushed Bobby Helms who isn't even top 50.
