The Alex Warren pub thing what was that

Basically over summer there was a guy obsessed with Alex Warren and Ordinary and nearly every argument he basically brought up how people were talking about it in the pubs

You don’t have to like Kylie as an artist, but “industry plant” is such a stupid term and it’s so cringe that you’ve used it against her. You should also fact check what she has in fact written, before stating things that aren’t true.

I'd give a free pass to an artist who doesn't write or produce their own hits but has undeniable talent, like Whitney Houston with her voice, but Kylie is a mid-singer and mid-dancer...

See? She neither wrote nor produced any of her 20 greatest hits in the UK but Love at First Sight at #17... How can anyone call her an artist if she never worked on her own art? And never excelled in any other area to be forgiven? The only cringe thing is your biased opinion due to nostalgia.

Nah, accusing Kylie Minogue of being an industry plant - a meaningless modern buzz phrase rooted in stan wars - is definitely still riding high at #1 in the BuzzJack Cringe Posts of the Week chart... congratulations @Adelita ! 🥇

It's interesting you think she didn't write any of her biggest songs, In Your Eyes, Love at first Sight, Slow, i belive in you, are just some of the many songs she has written, yes se regularly performed songs written by others, but Kylie does this because she can interpret songs and make them hers. She has written all or most of the songs in her last 4 albums and also impossible princess, but the poor uk reception of that record made her question her writing ability, the album has been re-evaluated by many critics and is now highly regarded.

Kylie is a strong songwriter and understands her music, she continually takes risks. Her voice is hugely underrated and she has an amazing vibrato and will she does not have a powerful tone she has a lot of power and is great with her head voice and has a lot of control in her higher register which is one of the more difficult registers to control and sustain. You need to look past the stigma dance and pop music has because it is actually quite difficult to sing, but I suggest you Google Confide in Me live in New York, and Your Disco Needs You, the royal Albert Hall 2015. You may not like her voice but after watching those performances you'll understand she has an excellent singing voice.

Out of her 20 biggest hits in the UK, she only wrote one: Love at First Sight... That means 19 of her 20 biggest hits were written and produced by other people... Sorry, but I don't call someone who doesn't immerse themselves in their own art an artist, I call that a fraud.

Seriously you do realise about 90 per cent of artists don't actually write their own music 🤣🤣

This doesn't make her an industry plant. Many famous artists in history haven't written their own hits, and that's fine! You don't have to get behind their music, but there's no need to completely diminish her achievements.

Also, go and see Kylie live and tell me she doesn't "excel in any other area", she's one of the greatest live performers I've had the pleasure of seeing live.

But HOW can someone be an industry plant?

If someone was around from the start of Kylie‘s career, they’d know it was a combination of factors.

She was already Australia’s most popular actress before she started her singing career, and even in the UK, my then 90-year-old neighbour absolutely adored her.

She had some extremely catchy tunes that kids like me loved, and we were the record buyers of the day.

And if you can combine that with such a positive personality, and a tenacious attitude, it begins to explain her success.

In short: she was just a pretty face. She never produced or wrote any of her biggest hits, and she was never a particularly talented dancer or singer to be forgiven. Sorry to tell you, but you've been scammed your whole life...

By that logic we can argue that Gaga is a gimmick that only got huge because of her outlandish outfits

I just need to say, I’m so sorry. Genuinely I really am. If you can’t enjoy music because you feel the artist doesn’t “immerse themselves in their own art”. I just feel so saddened for you that your letting your ego get in the way of enjoying music. I dont like some artist or songs l, their not to my taste (Jessie J being one of them - I only like Domino) but I don’t feel the need to go on the internet so enraged by it.

By the way there is more to a pop star then writing songs. Kylie is very hands on the music video treatments, her tours, arrangements, costumes.

Maybe an actor isn’t authentic as they have been given a script rather than write it themselves? My advise, don’t go to the theatre any time soon….

So I ask again if you are a music writer who cannot sing does that mean no one gets to hear your songs?
So Bernie Taupin should have sung all the hits Elton John sang?

You really need to think what you are saying, some people sing some people write, some are lucky to do both.

It feels like a term thrown around basically when they can't understand someone's success

Really hard to understand the success of a puppet whose biggest hits came from other people's minds. How you look is everything, I guess.

Michael Caine has never written a film script. I guess he’s just a puppet actor in your eyes?

You must really despise Paul Young then every Top 10 hit a cover, he must really really get the steam flowing out of your small brain.

So we are measuring success by how we look , jeez everybody whack out the meat dresses then 🤣

If a music artist is a jack of all trades, well, good for them - but that's simply one way of doing things. It's not the only way.

Kylie knows her own strengths. She's proved over her career that she has an ear for songs that fit her well, and that in and of itself is a talent. She has openly discussed her modus operandi of receiving demos, and if she comes across what she considers to be a great song, then she wants it! Several artists passed on Can't Get You Out of My Head but Kylie and her team heard something in it. Padam Padam was passed around too. If you cared to look through her recent albums you will see she does collaborate with writers. She's also spoken about learning how to self-produce her own vocals in recent years.

"She was just a pretty face" is actually misogynistic and highlights how restricted your point of view is. If you seriously believe that Kylie has had an almost 40 year career in music by being "a puppet" every step of the way, then I have to conclude that you're being a troll who enjoys putting down artists, which is really lame.

Pavarotti never wrote any arias either. He just sung them. I guess he’s not talented and just a puppet too?
