The "dead artist effect" as you call it hasn't been done away with, Ozzy Osbourne proved that as recently as last year!

I think the important part in terms of streaming is how your music has resonated with a wide range of demographics, and I'm not convinced Chris Rea had that beyond Driving Home for Christmas (which we know saw a bump). This is nothing to do with the 3 track rule.

Compilation soundtracks don't have the 3 track rule applied as there's no collective artist. It's 3 tracks per primary artist, whether it's an individual artist like Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter,

No, ironically his 3rd highest was Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad at 46 😂 though if they had resets he would've had 3 in the top 40

But there wouldn't be. Only Spotify show streaming figures, the rest don't. The OCC only count lots of people who stream the records a number of times.

A large fan base and I am not talking about the likes of Taylor or Sheeran fan bases, can never stream enough copies to make the units needed to make the chart.

The way the OCC counts streaming has done away with small fan bases to effect the charts, plus the dead artist effect too.

‘The dead artist effect’? There has only been a short period of time when there has ever been a significant dead artist effect (and by that I mean when several of their songs make the top 40) - as I said, even early in the streaming days ‘Careless Whisper’ didn’t make the top 40 after George Michael died - and that was before the days when the chart was flooded with classic Christmas songs.

‘The way the OCC counts streaming has done away with small fan bases’. Are you trying to say that small fan base should be able to manipulate the chart? And are you referring to the fact that the OCC includes streaming at all, or a specific way in which they count it?

If the chart was based on sales alone, it would not even represent what people are listening to at the moment. Sales are tiny, so of course if the chart was based solely on sales, the chart could be manipulated.

Platforms wouldn’t need to show streaming figures to show whether a song is being streamed enough to chart. You just need to look at the charts that these platforms provide. If I remember correctly, Chris Rea wasn’t really charting anywhere on any streaming platform other than for ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ - and do you really think as many people would have been choosing to play ‘The Road To Hell’ (great song by the way) as we’re playing, say ‘Where Is My Husband!’?

I’m not saying that playlisting is not an issue, but someone can go viral and chart before they are playlisted.
