Just because radio 1 has more followers on socials (or more taxis and cars have it on in your experience) doesn’t make it factually the most listened to, like the article that Brer shared shows radio 2 is more listened to in the country and has been for a long time

Whatever your personal experience the fact that a audience of 12.7m is bigger than an audience of 7.41m by some margin remains true. Radio 4 has a higher audience than Radio 1 as well which might just blow your mind.

Heck go into the tv forum youd think eastenders is the most popular tv show in the country, when in actually fact its lucky to get 2 - 4 million viewers regularly, there's 70m people in the UK (first example to pop into my head before the eastenders fans come for me 🤣🤣)

And as I said before, if you think I said this because I prefer r1 over r2, it’s not true. As a matter of fact, I prefer r2 over r1. I only listen to r1 when it’s the charts and I only listen to r2 when it’s SOT80s, SOT90s and POTP. If anything, I prefer listening to absolute because it’s a mixture of old and new and doesn’t repeat the same songs

They're cleverly using the wording biggest "brand" because that number adds together Heart, Heart Dance, etc.

Radio 2 is still the most-listened to single station.

Radio 1 probably has the biggest influence in terms of streaming media.

Radio 2 probably has the biggest influence in terms of physical media.

The commercial stations will all sit around the two of them in terms of chart impact.

All are important and influence what we hear and where that translates into the charts.
