It won't do anything for Dua Lipa. If you are up and coming it will usually kill your career stone dead. There is the feeling that no matter what we send voters won't vote for us so what is the point? Then if you are a songwriter? Why give a great song to Eurovision when you can give it any number of pop stars and make some good money on it? I see two optionsWhat they are doing right now. Getting talented people off social media with nothing to lose from doing this.Get someone who doesn't need the money like Ed Sheeran to write a song under a pseudonym. If it does well we can do a big reveal, its number one next week.
Tuesday at 19:472 days Well yes, that's the issue. The stigma attached to it in the UK will always put off bigger artists, in other countries, Eurovision doesn't have that, so they actually get well known artists in their country coming forward. Couple that with the need to keep it radio-friendly and our current model is so restricted that I don't know what the people immediately dismissing it in this thread expect, it's why I will at least give them credit here (and last year as well tbf) that they are at least going with a more leftfield name and style.
Tuesday at 19:492 days Author This year also has the additional notion that anyone with a fan base would surely just be making themselves a lamb to the slaughter, given many are boycotting this year due to Israel’s participation.

Stop picking out these YouTube nobodies to represent eurovisionI really don't see the problem with "nobodies", it's always the song, not the act, and you hearing of people does not mean they don't have talent. That you never heard of him doesn't mean he's a nobody either, this is probably the first time most of the general public have heard of him but he's got fairly decent numbers on Spotify/Youtube, does have a reasonably long career as a musician/audio artist and many of us here are already aware of him. Also like, well-known names never pan out well, they often end up with a weak song that's nowhere near as good as it could be.Can quite easily see why he would do it now, he's been doing his thing for a few years in his niche, and it's an opportunity to get that niche exposed to the whole continent if briefly, and he can easily go back to doing what he did before afterwards.

Yesterday at 18:481 day Did a double take when I saw this on the news, actually a really interesting pick (provided they haven't made him submit something extremely watered down).
Yesterday at 18:551 day Genuinely looking forward to what he comes up with as the song, should be good!

13 hours ago13 hr It’s understandable that a lot of artists would not consider representing the UK when all they do is get flooded with hate from their own country as soon as it’s announced. He is reportedly in his mid-30s so maybe he doesn’t mind so much. Both Olly Alexander and Mae Muller said they needed therapy after Eurovision and said they wouldn’t recommend it to others.
