Posted March 12Mar 12 8th March 2026It's a new club chart-topper as Ilennium get only a second charted track 6 years on from the first, but go all the way with Don't Want Your Love aided and abetted by Ellie Goulding who grabs her second number one inside 3 years. Bob Sinclar last troubled my charts 6 years ago as well, but his total of 10 charting tracks includes 2 other top 10's one with Robbie Williams in 2019 and World Hold On 2 decades ago. This time he brings along Kiesza, yet another 2020 last-time charter, and her first top 10 with the Nu Shooz cover since Hideaway in 2014. Up to 5. Of the four Country boys, only Morgan Wallen had a previous top 10 in 2021 with 7 Summers, though Eric Church topped with Glen Campbell. Tim McGraw though can claim chart action in each of the last 4 decades now, if nothing else showing I was into Country before it got fashionable again. Neil Sedaka makes upward progress with all 6 of his tracks, but The Immigrant makes it a second top 10 appearance 51 years on. The lyrics were ahead of their time. David Guetta's Prayer romps into the top 20, while loads of tracks shoot up into the top 40 in a right old clear-out of tracks that have been treading water while I was out of the country. A quiet week for new entries give me a chance to chop the chart down to 95, and expect that chopping again next week barring a load of fab new releases. Depeche Mode cover Buffy Sainte-Marie's Universal Soldier, a 60's hit for Donovan, and one I first knew 56 years ago by Glen Campbell. It's for charity, and the lyrics will remain relevant till the end of homo sapiens, barring divine intervention or the invention of giant-sized Replicators a la Star Trek at zero cost to everyone on the planet. New at 85.Bebe Rexha samples some Faithless on her newie New Religion, 30 years on and still sounding pumping, 5 years since their last charter for Faithless, 3 years since Bebe hit 2 with Snoop Dogg on Satellite, and 8 years on from a Florida Georgia Line collab. She has guested here and there though on others tracks. New at 88 one ahead of Harry Styles second-best track off the new Kiss n Disco album (as I will call it, but it's mainly Kiss, and one disco), American Girls, with final slots for Squeeze, Tilbrook & Difford, Glen and Chris, first charted for me way back in 1978 on the number 3 Take Me I'm Yours - and they didn't reach a higher peak than that until 2016 when Nirvana finally gave them a number one. Why Don't You is an old song from the 70's, part of a scrapped album that didn't see the light of day until the newly-recorded version in 2026. Finally, White Plains chart career I largely missed due to being in Singapore for 2 years 1969 to 1971, so When You Are A King gets a belated chart debut 55 years late, after hitting the sales chart, and just after...I returned from Singapore almost 2 weeks ago! So that seems beautifully appropriate. 1 10 1 4 DON'T WANT YOUR LOVE - Ilennium & Ellie Goulding 2225002 1 1 7 APERTURE - Harry Styles 6763003 3 1 13 RELIQUIA - ROSALIA 10075004 2 1 13 FREE LOVE - Cast 11762505 40 5 2 I CAN'T WAIT - Bob Sinclar & Kiesza 770006 9 6 8 EMBERS - Robin Schulz featuring Izzy Bizu 2271007 11 7 2 THE IMMIGRANT - Neil Sedaka 870008 12 8 4 MCARTHUR - HARDY, Morgan Wallen, Tim McGraw, Eric Church 970009 5 5 10 BROKEN STRINGS - Alan Walker featuring Katherine O'Ryan & Isabella Melkman 47050010 4 1 12 TELL ME THERE'S A HEAVEN - Chris Rea 109200011 6 4 17 YOUR LAST SONG - The Lottery Winners 73190012 8 1 22 LOTUS - Rose Gray 134635013 37 13 2 LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN - Neil Sedaka 4930014 39 14 4 LUCKY AGAIN - Lykke Li 5240015 7 5 8 TROUBLE FOLLOWS - YONAKA 30450016 16 16 8 HAND IN MY HAND - Rob Thomas 10720017 15 15 15 ESIBIZIONISTA - Annalisa 22645018 18 18 8 MORRISSEY - Robbie Williams 13970019 62 19 2 PRAYER - David Guetta, Kiko & Olivier Giacomotto 2840020 20 20 10 END OF BEGINNING - Djo 16480021 21 21 10 GIVE ME SOMETHING - OneRepublic 16655022 22 22 17 CHOOSIN' TEXAS - Ella Langley 21715023 13 1 14 SHAKE IT DOWN - Mud 96125024 14 6 14 HEAVY NEWS - Richard Ashcroft 36385025 17 10 15 BEAUTIFUL SPIRITUAL - Blue 36470026 19 1 16 WONDERFUL WORLD BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE - Jimmy Cliff 74170027 34 27 8 PERFECT DAY - Al Green featuring RAYE 12615028 59 28 2 VERTIGO - AVALAN ROKSTON 2840029 32 29 11 OPALITE - Taylor Swift 13575030 26 16 12 DIVE INTO THE OCEAN - Alok, Zeeba & Portugal. March 15Mar 15 Hi John. Hope you're settling in back to UK life. All good here...well, ok anyway. Had to cover the other shift this week where Heart/Hits are banned. There's older people on that shift you see - so we had 60s/70s/80s tunes which was very refreshing 😂 Speaking of oldies, thanks so much for commenting on and highlighting faves on my Retro chart - not sure how much longer I'll keep it up for. March 15Mar 15 I really like the Bob Sinclar and Keisza version of 'I Can't Wait'. The new track by Kungs and Boyz Noise - Get Away has similar vibes and I really like both - both 80s influenced tracks.Bebe Rexha and Faithless' track is very good too.

See Reign Me In, only taKen me 6 months to buy it! 😄The Depeche song has recognition factor for me, takes me back to being 13 years old, so I was always going to want to hear that some more! Yay! Thanks for the comments! 😎

Older people on one shift sounds very odd - do they do the late shift or the day shift?! Anyway, I'm always happy to hear 60's and 70's stuff as they go out of fashion on most radio stations. I played one from 1930 yesterday (I'm reading Bob Stanley's book on 20th century pop) - surprising how many great songs were about in the 20's and 30's. Beyond The Blue Horizon is a great one, last seen done by Mike Nesmith and Lou Christie, turning up in Rainman movie. Retro charts were always just occasional bouts of oldies charts to avoid the main chart getting swamped by them, for me, but they are often a good indicator of what you will still like down the line - cos not all oldies will still sound fresh, what with overplay! I don't need to tell you about overplay! 😄Reliquia still classy, needs to be a hit and Berghain was stunning at the Brits. Lucky Again, it's all about those swirling middle-eastern synth/strings bits, and her best in ages. Opalite always nice, but never a massive fave at any stage, just pleasantly hummable, but neither am I fed up hearing it despite 4 or 5 months of hearing it. Yay Homewrecker, sounds good more and more to me too, and Alex Warren I generally prefer his upbeat tracks, Ordinary being an exception. Thanks as always for the picks and comments and chat! Always fab! 😎
