Posted March 22Mar 22 Hello Britney's fans in the UK. Sorry for my english but I'm spanish. I have a some questions for you.I've been looking at Britney's UK sales and I'm surprised to learn that she hasn't had a best-selling album there. Her highest-selling album is ...Baby One More Time with "only" 1.2 million copies (4x platinum). All the artists of her generation, like Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Rihanna, Beyonce or Lady Gaga, have at least one album with 1.8-2.0 million copies sold, and Britney doesn't.Was Britney really a success in the UK? I know her singles charted very well. But was Britney truly a musical phenomenon in the UK? Does she have a large fanbase? Was she musically very famous there? Did she have massive success like in the US? Is she well-known there for her music? Thanks!
March 22Mar 22 Welcome to the forum!1.2 million copies is huge, and she has another seven albums/compilations that are certified platinum at minimum. She also has 24 top 10 singles, at least five of which have upwards of 1 million combined sales + streaming units, and six #1 singles. She's undoubtedly huge here, I'm surprised it's even in question!
March 22Mar 22 Also her compilation record TSC from 2009 is charting every week on UK albums chart which means that there are people who are still interested in her music.
March 22Mar 22 According to this list she is 17th (and higher than Xtinct). But it’s Wikipedia so take with some salt etc…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_female_music_artists_in_the_United_KingdomShe absolutely was a huge deal during her peak years. Couldn’t escape hearing a song of hers or hearing people talk about her etc…Wasn’t she one of the most popular Google searches for several years back in the early 00’s?
March 22Mar 22 This isn’t a knock on the original poster but I’ve noticed that Britney’s success is being questioned a hell of a lot over the last 6 months or so. It’s really bizarre. The best selling lists are out there for people to see and make some kind of judgement themselves etc..

On my Rihanna and Taylor certification threads:Taylor has 87.8 million certified unitsRihanna has 75.9 million certified units

March 24Mar 24 Welcome to the forum! Britney was huge in the UK (perhaps not in the way she was in the US) but she was definitely huge here (I’d say she had major success with her first four albums and then Blackout and Circus she was also still up there but not to the extent of her previous eras) and then from there on it was more a case of her stans were there and the general public’s interest wasn’t as high. It’s interesting looking at peak era sales because you probably would assume that her debut album was much bigger than what it was in the UK (but it was still culturally huge). Interesting that she also never had a UK #1 album!I think artists like P!nk and Beyoncé sustained career longevity and remained major forces in the UK for longer than what Britney did but it definitely doesn’t takeaway from the fact that she definitely was a major music icon here. We see this because her greatest hits album charts week on week in the UK and many artists of her generation have greatest hits album what aren’t charting here week on week so that’s a way of looking at it!
