Posted April 10Apr 10 5th April 2026It's a first chart-topper for Lykke Li 12 years after Gunshot debuted in my charts - it's never too late for my charts! Lucky Again is her best record and knocks off Neil Sedaka's The Immigrant as he overtakes himself with Laughter In The Rain at 3. Jessie Ware Rides into the top 10, her 2nd following on from Pearls in 2023, and the first time The Good The Bad & The Ugly tune has made my top 10 since 1968, when I was a lad of 10 years old arsing about with listing my favourite chart songs in the right order (my order). Still have those notebooks too.Biggest climber of 38 places is for Take That's You're A Superstar at 28, following on from watching the 3-part Netflix series, which is rather good and ends on their new single looking quite mature these days - even Robbie is now 52 and he looked like about 15 in the early years! The highest new entry is the top track on RAYE's album, a collab with movie-musician Hans Zimmer, on a Berghain/Reliquia-ish inventive/classical-ish lush crossover, Click Clack Symphony at 59. Just behind at 62, Tame Impala get a re-entry with Dracula, one I would have charted again in February if my chart had the room, as it was played in an Auckland bar/restaurant while I was there enjoying the music and eating. Simiem debuts at 69 with the good new track Sugar, aided by Akon - towards the end - to extend his chart run to 21 years, having previously run out of steam as lead act in 2009. Just guest features since then. Leony is another chart debutante at 73, along Calum Scott now on 8 years charting from his first duet with Leona Lewis. Obviously has a thing for Leon-named ladies. Another year, another Jungle new entry, Loaded Honey having dominated 2025 for a side-project, Carry On being their 19th charter, not including the 7 or 8 as Loaded Honey. Most of the last albums for both acts, in fact. Maxi Priest is still popping up in my charts in the 2020's some 40 years on from his reggae debut, and Touch By An Angel at 80 is the latest. Presumably the Angel asked permission first. Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift have new videos to plug the next "singles" off their albums, which seems a pointless description to tracks that peaked on week 1 when the album/extended version came out. Bryan Adams OTOH has an actual physical single coming out on a track you can't buy yet - Tough Town is not bad at all at 85. Trevor Oaks of Showaddywaddy passed away while I was in New Zealand, and so a belated tribute to him with the Waddy's first hit (and best track, possibly) the Glam stomp of Hey Rock'n'Roll which peaked at 11 52 years ago. Judie Tzuke's 1979 lush and haunting ballad made the sales chart the other week, so that's my excuse to try and get her a bigger peak than Stay With Me Till Dawn got first time around. Dracula is still the original that peaked at 13 for me last year though I also like the Jenny version - it's just that I dont want to buy it twice and the original now has a fond holiday memory attached to it from a bar in Auckland that was playing current pop music along with a lot of classic Aus and New Zealand pop, so I should have let it re-enter about 6 weeks earlier, but the Jenny hit gave me the push I needed. 😄cheers! 😎

April 15Apr 15 Dracula along with sombr's 12 to 12 are such good retro revival disco/new wave tracks with the falsetto vocal and dancefloor production.I'm a bit over them for now though due to too much airplay especially Dracula.

Now that you mention it, yes, its good getting falsetto back in disco/dance-based tracks, synth-New Wave or otherwise. One of those lost arts. I'm still hoping for competing harmonies a la Mamas & Papas/ABBA to make a comeback too!
