I know it's a bit random, but I was trying to think of as many examples off the top of my head and only three examples I could think of, all women, were;

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Olivia Newton-John

Lisa Scott-Lee

Can someone add to this list for me?

  • Literally none of these are double barrelled names (and half of them have never charted), I'm not sure what you think the term means. Although I am having a light chuckle at the concept of Lil Uzi Ver

  • Steps had two unusually, with Lee Latchford-Evans is in the band too. I'm glad Sophie, Lisa and Lee kept theirs, as it's pretty unusual to do so in this day and age. I have a double-barrelled surnam

  • I think, for marketing purposes, record companies like singers with short names so anyone with a double-barrelled surname will have it shortened or be given a new name.

^ I think Dean is just a middle name there? (also Gil Scott-Heron has never had a hit single sadly x although he has had charting albums)

A couple of more obscure recent ones:

Daphne Rubin-Vega

Katie Gregson-MacLeod

Source: I just typed a hyphen into Polyhex. kink Couldn't find any more digging back to 2000.

Technically Beyonce is Beyonce Knowles-Carter if we go by her full name

James Vincent Mcmorrow or Declan J Donovan

Also &Friends, A-Trak, Pete & Bas and Lil Uzi Vert could count too

if we count featured artists what about Kelli-Leigh (More Than Friends and uncredited on I Wanna Feel)

Ok this thread has escalated to a barrel of laughs as I might have imagined, but yeah fair enough, more obscure than I had initially thought then.

I have a double-barrelled surname so it was nice to see a couple of singers I could relate to in that regard when growing up.

Tim Rice Oxley a member of Keane.

James Dean Bradfield already mentioned but i always thought it was a double barrell name.

So if we consider double-barreled surnames of charting artists, basically no one has added a single legitimate entry to this apart from Brer!

Molly Smitten-Downes

And how many chart hits has she had exactly? (as Molly Smitten-Downes... unless Wardy is relaxing the rules and anyone with a double-barreled name can count even if that's not how they're credited on the chart, we could potentially have a few more then)

It was more a curiosity as I thought there might be more well known names I'd forgotten, and why are all these names female when it's equally possible that a man could chart with a double-barrelled name!

Children of the Universe made #23 in 2014.

(And omg I just found she was in Stunt which had one of my fave #9 hits in 2008 (with Sash!) Raindrops (Encore Une Fois).
