'no tears left to cry' is an easy winner for me and one of my favourite songs of the 2010s, so ethereal and perfectly pitched as a defiant return after the tragedy at her Manchester show

'Dangerous Woman' was a great rockier swerve and clicked more for me after seeing her live

I wasn't too keen on 'thank u, next' when it first came out and needed time to get used to the less pop direction after sweetener. It has aged really well for me so I get the critical acclaim - a very refreshing, mature perspective lyrically

'positions' remains pretty smooth and a highlight from its parent album

I enjoy the moody synths and lower register on the new single but not a top tier Ari chorus for me yet.

I appreciate the house direction of 'yes, and?' but the lyrics haven't been that enduring so far

'The Way' is cute enough and nostalgic as the first Ari song I knew

I can see why 'Problem' was so big but the horn trend has aged horribly for me

01. no tears left to cry

02. hate that i made you love me

03. Dangerous Woman

04. Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea)

05. thank u, next

06. yes, and?

08. The Way (feat. Mac Miller)

I don't suppose 'no tears' will ever be topped.

'hate that i made you love me' is fast becoming one of my all time fave Ari records.

01- thank u, next

02- no tears left to cry

03- positions

04- yes, and?

05- hate that i made you love me

06- Dangerous Woman

07- The Way (feat Mac Miller

08- Problem (feat Iggy Azalea)

For me, very close between thank u, next and no tears left to cry but thank u, next just edges it for me. 'Problem' that was an #1 in my personal chart when it was released and I was a fan of it at the time but it isn't one that I would go out my way to listen nowadays.

Clear winner in my eyes!

Great thread idea here Jade! I’m going to actually give a relisten here I have a clear first (and clear last place) but the rest could fall in any order depending on the day and my mood.

hate that i made you love me is definitely her most instant lead since no tears left to cry though and has gotten way more week one plays!

However looking at that list it doesn’t actually include many of my favourites from her. Shes always better with the album tracks and follow ups is Ariana.

Ok so after a listen and some thinking this is my current ranking based off today!

  1. no tears left to cry

  2. hate that I made you love me

  3. thank u, next

  4. Dangerous Woman

  5. The Way

  6. Problem

  7. positions

  8. yes, and?

no tears left to cry is a masterpiece no doubt about it. Perfect comeback and one of the best singles and videos of the decade!

There’s not much in it really 2-5 may be interchangeable but hate that I made you love me has made a strong first impression and it’s definitely been more instant than her last few leads! thank u, next pops off a lot now and feels like her signature track perhaps at the height of her cultural dominance, Dangerous Woman offered something different and has many a vocal moment through the track, The Way was perfect as a major debut and feels very true to Ariana as well like I’d love more of that sound from her with her today voice.

Problem as jade said feels dated now but I loved it at the time and I’ve grown to relove it now too. positions itself is great but it’s my least returned too of her albums and there’s better on the album for me too! I do like the track though but it’s not one I listen too much on it’s own accord now despite bashing it through late 2020-early 2021.

yes, and? I don’t know what it was but I never fully got it. Eternal sunshine the album was sensational thankfully but this is like the odd one out on the album a strange lead choice. I do appreciate it was at least not a typical ari lead and that it gave something different but unless I’m playing the album as a whole I’d rarely seek out a listen to this on its own.
