Wednesday at 10:472 days Crying for no reason among my Top 3 songs of 2014 - by far Katy's best song for me. Perfect dramaturgy, great production and awesome vocals. Second favourite is Chandelier - my favourite SIA song. You still hear this very frequently everywhere - time for a return to the UK Top 100.Another song, which was in the Top 10 forever, was John Legend - All Of Me.
Wednesday at 12:481 day Some excellent non top 2 mega hits there Jester, I like them all but especially Sia and the wonderful Katy B.
Wednesday at 18:481 day Some great shouts in that section, I did at first think Sky Full of Stars was a bit too sellout-y, especially coming after the incredible Midnight, but the sheer euphoria of it all has wormed it's way into my affections like most of their songs. Blank Space, Crying For No Reason and Let It Go also all amongst my favourite pop hits at the time, Frozen contributed to my Postgrad dissertation so it always brings back memories of that xFrom what I remember is still to come, this almost exactly mirrors my favourites so take me falling behind as a compliment! I think my favourite to drop out is Ghost, she's become a bit more of an anonymous dance vocalist since then, but her debut era was way better than someone that didn't make the X Factor finals had any right to be.
Wednesday at 22:121 day 'Blank Space' remains Taylor's very best for me.'Chandelier' was a key highlight of the year.
Yesterday at 09:071 day 'Budapest' I first heard and charted in October 2013 so it was a pleasant surprise it becoming such a big hit the following summer.'A Sky Full Of Stars' and 'Chandelier' are great as well and 'Blank Space' would agree is among Taylor's top 5.'Crying For No Reason' is stunning and was my 3rd fave song of the year. Not as massive on 'Let It Go' in comparison but no denying how big it was (and with my nieces lol).
13 hours ago13 hr Catching up again:“Blame” isn’t bad but I feel like John Newman has only one style really.“Gecko (Overdrive) is one of the best out so far. Becky’s own hits are mostly quite bland but that suits her vocal style perfectly.I said before I’m really quite fond of “Happy”. In fact I think I enjoy it more than “Uptown Funk”, though the latter is certainly an incredibly cleverly written and catchy throwback style song.“Ghost” is well sung but quite repetitive and I got bored of it quickly. “Timber” is also quite repetitive but you can see why it was so successful and it’s still heard around quite a bit.
1 hour ago1 hr Author 10. Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz – Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Remix)Chart run: 1-1-2-3-5-8-11-14-13-15-17-24-43-45-48-42-50-55-39-41-38-38-43-43-47-45-52-50-52-53-55-57-59-55-55-55-62-59-62-62-60-61-61-62-58-64R(2)-69 (47 weeks)Sales at number 1: 85,165; 68,958Year End: 22Number 2 peaks behind the chart topper: Maroon 5 – Maps (Year End 75) & Duke Dumont – Won’t Look Back (Year End N/A outside the top 100)Finally into the top 10 for this almost never ending rate! Lilly Wood is actually a French duo and the original Prayer In C was recoded back in 2010 with the intriguingly named The Prick. This remix is seems to be credited variably with and without The Prick (Spotify does, OCC and polyhex do not) but it seems that the Prick is sometimes used by the band and sometimes not. So with or without Prick is the question...So along came Robin Schulz, a German producer (more on him later) who remixed Prayer In C using the track from Lilly Wood’s album Invincible Friends. He then made it a free download which, as you can imagine, rather annoyed the copyright owner Wagram Music. But, this initial free download was a smart move as it got it on the radar of the public across Europe and by the time it was officially released, it became a number 1 across the continent and was one of the biggest sellers of the year in France. It’s a simple song at its core, with an earworm of a guitar lick over the folky gentle lyrics from Nali Hadida. This is one I revisited for this rate as it is not heard a great deal now and I’ve subsequently added it to my Spotify playlist so a lovely rediscovery. This works very well as a simple mash up of gentle laid back dance and subtle folk pop and it is a well deserved top 10 finish for me. This is the only number 1 of the year to stop two other songs getting to number 1. One is great, the other not so much.Firstly the great – Duke Dumont’s Won’t Look Back. He had already had a massive number 1 in 2013 and another this year (still to be revealed) so he was on a roll by this point. It’s a shame this didn’t make the top to give a hat trick of chart toppers as it’s a really strong song that is very reminiscent of Black Box’s Ride On Time. At least it hit the top of my personal chart. Not much to say on Maroon 5’s Maps – its pretty forgettable but given how successful they had been with Moves Like Jagger previously I guess they were riding on a wave here. Meh.

57 minutes ago57 min Prayer In C is quite pleasant but sort of passes me by a bit. I liked it enough to chart it at 28 for a 6 week run, and then forgot about it until now. Lower half of the list I think. Won't Look Back OTOH was top 10 and much better, while Maps was lucky to get a number 39 slot for me.
