My local Music Shop is closing, saying poor sales.

The guy running the shop said it was due to people buying online. Ironically if the shop closes then I'm going to have to buy online

It this happening elsewhere? A countrywise trend?

Well there is no chance of any record store closing round here, we have HMV, but most of the time I buy online, from CDwow or Play.com, especially for albums they are cheaper.

Slightly off topic,but still music-purchase related..does anyone know why CD-WOW aren't stocking NOW 63 ??

I looked yesterday & it wasn't promoted on there. :(

Buy off Play.com if you have to e-motion they are cheap and reliable

Quite a few music shops have disappeared from the High Street in and around Manchester - HMV is still well represented in the city centre though - but others such as Virgin; Our Price have been disappearing. On the outskirts/surrounding towns of Manchester, it's particularly difficult to find outlets that sell singles - most of the album outlets are superstores/supermarkets and most only sell albums.

In Bedford there is a Music Zone and a Woolworths that sell about ten singles so I have to go out of town just for a single quite often. <_< Wolves however has quite a lot of record shops still ^_^

I tend to buy from hmv.co.uk now it has free delivery and its sorted itself out. I have a Woolworths in my area but all Woolies only stock 1 format for the singles. I also have a local shop called Solo Music but have only the top 20 singles and many of them are missing and don't stock all the new releases.

I desperatley need a HMV to open up down here!

dont think the threat of 'online' e-tailers will have much effect on smaller independents as no doubt they too will be online via places on eBay and in the Amazon marketplace. most smaller independents will be specialising, whether second hand, dance or ultra indie/alternative music. i think they will have problems if they try to be mainstream and try to attack the marketplace and offers where hmv. virgin and music zone are.

it's happened around here - all the smaler shops have closed, due to online sales.

It's a sad day when another store bites the dust...

We only have a WH Smith in my town plus one small independent store which gave up on singles long ago.

I order any singles from HMV online but find them a bit slow to deliver at times.
