Posted February 6, 200718 yr Can anyone name their top 3 favourite politicians either current or from the past. My Fav are 1. Harold Wilson. Not great Economically maybe but made great reforms and was PM when Britain was a great place to live IMO. Plus he held the Labour party together, as was shown when the Labour Party fell apart in the 1980s after he quit as PM. 2. Winston Churchill. Dont agree with his domestic policies but was a very chrasmatic war-time figure who basically was the only european leader at the time to stand up too Hitler. We probably be speaking German right now if it wasnt for him. 3. George Galloway. Weather you like or loathe him in a era on boring politicians and labour/conservatives policies being identical its good to see a man you stick to his believes Edited February 6, 200718 yr by Joey Deacon
February 6, 200718 yr We're doing Churchill for our A Level coursework, everything he touched went wrong but he has some really funny quotes.
February 6, 200718 yr Given I am essentially a right wing Tory some of my choices will probably surprise 1. Margaret Thatcher - A woman of principle 2. Tony Banks - Met the guy once he was fun and down to earth and loved his football also the biggest supporter in parliament for animal rights too 3. Robin Cook - Had principles unlike the rest of this spineless government and was also very opposed to Iraq war 2 and 3 both died at a terribly young age and were sad losses that 2 decent people die young when there are so many slimeballs in parliament :(
February 6, 200718 yr I'm going to choose this guy http://www.politics.co.uk/MP/xmps/m/macnei...#036;452178.htm As for the other 2....
February 6, 200718 yr I always did have a sneaky admiration for Robin Cook. He was so very much more intelligent than the rest of the Parliamentary Labour Party. And they knew it. <_< I'm struggling now. Dennis Canavan maybe? I like independent thinkers who ain't willing to be lobby fodder. ^_^
February 6, 200718 yr Bubbling under I have : Anne Widdecombe - Done huge amounts for animal rights in UK Alan Clark - A great character and eccentric Boris Johnson - pompous oaf but funny as f*** Norman Tebbit - bravely battled back from crippling injuries to him and wife George Galloway - Find many of his views repugnant but maybe best orator I have ever seen in UK politics Ken Clarke - Fat, likes his creased clothing, alcohol and a cigar - bit like me lol John Smith - A decent honourable man in Labour politics, a rarity
February 6, 200718 yr I think Boris Johnson is hilarious. I wouldn't want him as PM though... Likewise Anne W. The colourful, slightly eccentric ones.
February 6, 200718 yr I think Boris Johnson is hilarious. I wouldn't want him as PM though... Likewise Anne W. The colourful, slightly eccentric ones. Yeah I like politicians who are colourful / eccentric / stand by their views and principles no matter what / are not clones or yes men/women :) even if they are not in the party I happen to support I do have admiration for people who tick some of those boxes ^_^
February 6, 200718 yr Or ones who are on the verge of bringing down Tony Blair and/or his Govt like the young SNP guy. ;)
February 6, 200718 yr boris johnson is a joke... like jade goody got where he /she is because of the publics morbid fascination for a fool..
February 6, 200718 yr He is a joke. But I do think he's hilarious. I often wonder if it's all just an act for more publicity. After all he's an exceptionally intelligent guy isn't he? Thin line between intelligence and madness though. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt... :P
February 7, 200718 yr Hugo Chavez - because he takes no sh!t from George W Bush and is genuinely doing things to benefit the ordinary people of Venezuela.. Nelson Mandela - Bit of an obvious one, but I really do admire his courage, his determination and his dignity, and no, I do NOT believe the bullsh!t about him being a "terrorist".... How the hell can he be a terrorist when he was representing the bloody MAJORITY of South Africa...... <_< If anyone was the Terrorists, it was the white architects of Apartheid, the white invaders who robbed, pillaged, stole and raped South Africa. Christ, you'd might as well call the bloody French Resistance "terrorists" then if Mandela is one..... Robin Cook - totally with Craig on this one, a man of honour and principle, if only he had been PM instead of Teflon Tony...
February 7, 200718 yr John Smith George Galloway Tony Benn (I'm just picking my jaw up off the floor after reading Kimi's list... NORMAN TEBBITT?!?!? MARGARET THATCHER???? Surely, on any list that includes these 2 fascists... shouldn't Hitler be on there, too?)
February 7, 200718 yr John Smith George Galloway Tony Benn (I'm just picking my jaw up off the floor after reading Kimi's list... NORMAN TEBBITT?!?!? MARGARET THATCHER???? Surely, on any list that includes these 2 fascists... shouldn't Hitler be on there, too?) Tony Benn, he's someone I have a huge amount of respect for as well, an incredibly intelligent man with a political and historical knowlege that makes Tony Blair just look like a mental Pygmy.... George Galloway, for me, just blew it with his ridiculous antics on CBB last year.. What a plank.... He totally squandered all the good will he had accumulated up to that point...
February 7, 200718 yr Charles Kennedy - Gave the Liberals their biggest gain in Parliament since they were last in power and ousted by young idiots in his party hungry to take over, but thwarted by their own perversions. Likes a drink? Don't we all? Neville Chamerlain - God Bless him and his little bit of white paper...well, he tried. David Steele - It's all about the Spitting Image puppet.

Surely, on any list that includes these 2 fascists... shouldn't Hitler be on there, too?) Tebbit no matter what you think of him was bought up in deep poverty and worked hard and studied when others around him were what we would call feral chavs today, eventually working so hard he became an airline pilot, no mean feat. He and his wife then suffered horrendous injuries in a terrorist attack and Norman once he recovered has full time cared for her ever since, no matter what you think of his policies he is a decent and honourable man

He and his wife then suffered horrendous injuries in a terrorist attack and Norman once he recovered has full time cared for her ever since, no matter what you think of his policies he is a decent and honourable man So in other words, Norman Tebbit, came from good working class stock, worked hard and studied, and then forgot where he came from, what his roots were and was part of an evil Govt hell-bent on destroying the working classes... The worst kind of traitor imaginable..... <_<
February 7, 200718 yr So in other words, Norman Tebbit, came from good working class stock, worked hard and studied, and then forgot where he came from, what his roots were and was part of an evil Govt hell-bent on destroying the working classes... The worst kind of traitor imaginable..... <_< Its no different to the majority of today's Labour party though, most of them in the cabinet were educated at top private schools and are anything but working class, times have changed now Politics overides class though, I spent my youth on a council estate and a pretty rough one too but have never voted anything other than tory and don't consider myself a class traitor or forgetting where I come from I simply felt that the free market and capitalism is the way forward regardless of class. You say that Maggie was trying to destroy the working class but it was the working class that won her 3 elections, traditional working class areas such as Essex were a sea of blue as were areas like the Black Country and so on those areas are what got her into power 3 times not traditional tory strongholds like Westminster, Henley on Thames and so on, the likes of Dagenham and Basildon did . The working class loved Maggie. Maggie did plenty for the working class, she created the Princes Trust in collaboration with Charles that enabled disadvantaged youngsters to set up businesses instead of stealing cars, she allowed people in council houses to buy their own properties and get a foot on the ladder, she created enterprise agencies in disadvantaged areas, she increased state benefits a lot, she cut taxes for everybody, yes if I went to a few mining communities and said Maggie was good I would not get out of there alive but on the whole the working class did well out of Maggie thats why the likes of "Essex man" kept voting her in
February 7, 200718 yr Charles Kennedy - Gave the Liberals their biggest gain in Parliament since they were last in power and ousted by young idiots in his party hungry to take over, but thwarted by their own perversions. Likes a drink? Don't we all? then they give the leadership to someone ancient who just doesn't connect well with the public -_- Boris Johnson though  legend for the wrong reasons
