One of alecia’s friends had a band going and when he heard her singing he asked if she would like to try out as the singer. Alecia finally felt she was getting somewhere musically and joined the band. While they were only together for 6 months, alecia loved being in the band.

Club Fever was an underground club in Philadelphia where mostly black people would go. On thanksgiving 1995, alecia went into the hip hop room where people were rapping. Alecia stepped up to the open mic and started singing a song by mary J Blige. At first the crowd were booing alecia off the stage, but as they started to listen to her they began to cheer for her and realised that she was someone to watch and that she could sing. It wasn’t long before alecia was singing at club fever every weekend.

One night while alecia was singing at club fever, she was noticed by a lady who knew someone who had a girl group and they were looking for a third person to be in the group.
