Hard-Fi want Madonna to cover one of their songs. But not Living for the Weekend.

I agree with "Hard To Beat" but I don't understand why not "Living For The Weekend"??? It'd be perfect for Madge to cover
Richard Archer is a moron. It's amusing having Hard-Fi thinking they're big enough to be an influence on Madonna

i personnally don't think madge should be seen out in public let alone sing anyhting anymore, okay so i liked 'papa don't preach' and 'spanish lullaby' and at the time 'beautiful stranger' but all this dance crap is it really neccessary?? and as for covering a hard-fi song that would totally ruin the song.

I'm getting a little disturbed by this proliferation of Pop Acts covering what are, supposedly, Rock Bands.... Anyone remember the horrendous job that tw@t Will Young did of The Doors' classic "Light My Fire"???

Sh!t, it'll be bloody Pussycat Dolls doing a Slayer song next......

Hmm, Will Young covered the Jose Feliciano cover of the Doors. If anyone "butchered" it then it was Jose...then Shirley Bassey.

Blame Manzarek for being so keen to let everyone have a piece of the "classic".

That's certainly true, Feliciano did start the rot, but that doesnt mean to say that we had to be subjected to another sh!tty cover.... And a cover of a cover at that. Just says everything about the stultifying unoriginality that exists in pop music today....

Slag off Ray Manzarek if you want, at least he wrote original music and was in an original band, which is more than can be said for a tw@t like Will Young who only got famous because of some crappy TV show....

Well she'd make it better, that's for sure!

That's debateable. I remember the piss-awful cover of "American Pie" she did... Fukkn' laughble. So laughable in fact that Madonna herself clearly regretted it and very noticebly left it off her "GHv2" album even though it went to No1.....

hahaha PCD, slayer song, now that WOULD be funny!!

Yeah, I can just see them do "Raining Blood" or "Angel of Death".....

Actually, Tori Amos did a pretty damn good cover of "Raining Blood" a few years back....

But American Pie was a good song, which Hard-Fi aren't exactly capable of making...

Yeah, it was a great song when Don McLean did it back in the 70s.....

Madge's best is clearly behind her, "Erotica" and "Ray of Light" are both good albums, but I've been rather unimpressed by the material she's done for the past five years or so. She's good at finding interesting producers though, I'll give her that.....

And if Hard-Fi are so incapable of making good songs, then why's Madonna so keen to get in on the act and cover one of their songs...? Hell, I aint even a fan of Hard Fi, but Madge obviously rates 'em....

I see no real harm in rock bands covering pop acts or vice versa. In can produce some interesting results. And most of the time it's just for a B-side anyway, so there's no real problem.

Madonna's cover of American Pie was terrible though.

It says Hard-Fi want her to cover one of their songs, not that Madonna wants to...

That's certainly true... Marilyn Manson did a great job of "Sweet Dreams.." and NIN did a good job of Joy Division's "Dead Souls" and Adam Ant's "Physical" back in the day. Unfortunately, when MM and NIN did it, every two-bit bunch of Nu-Metallers got on the act of 80s covers just to get chart placings, and MM's subsequent covers of 80s songs were also done purely to cash in, not for any good or interesting reasons as the poor quality of the covers bore out...

Cover versions can be interesting when they're done because the artists concerned do it out of a genuine respect for the original and when they do something interesting or unexpected with it, unfortunately most of the time it's done for all the wrong reasons...

But American Pie was a good song, which Hard-Fi aren't exactly capable of making...

I have to disagree with you on that one. In my personal opinion they make good music and it was my album of 2005 as its such an easy album to listen too, but not everyone is going to like them though and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
