I need some help with my Media coursework. Do video downloads count towards the chart? I'm guessing no, but it seems strange to me that such a big deal was made out of The Proclaimer's video being downloaded on Comic Relief night, if it didn't count at all.

 

This can probably be answered with a simple yes or no, so could be a waste of a thread :lol:

I might be wrong, but a stand alone video download does not count towards the chart, although it does count towards the chart if bought as part of a 'bundle' (i.e. the CD single with the video on, or as part of a legal download bundle).

 

If stand alone video downloads would have counted, then 500 Miles would've have been #1 on the Sunday after Comic Relief instead of #3.

The OCC are looking at including them, but they don't count at the moment as a standalone format. Their inclusion has been raised at the meetings of the Chart Supervisory Committee who draw up the chart rules for the OCC to enforce. I believe there is a feasibility study taking place...
