April 17, 200718 yr Got my card through today telling me about it, don't think I'll vote. You should Clare, just think of all those Suffragettes who chained themselves to 10 Downing St in protest to get you that vote, seriously, I aint taking the p***.... Register a protest vote, vote for a candidate who's going to shake things up a bit, or an Independent candidate, hell, even "Monster Raving Loony"... I reckon it would be great if there was a box in the voting slip marked "None of the Above" (like in "Brewster's Millions"), it would be a great method by which to register a protest vote... I reckon the vast majority of people would actually go out and vote and actually tick the "None of the Above" box, just to say "fukk you"....
April 17, 200718 yr I shall be voting Tory again as I always do ^_^ and always will even though I do not like Cameron as he is not a true Thatcherite. I think we will do pretty well as there is a lot of anti Labour feeling out there in the country despite the economy being in good shape. I fear one of the big winners will be the BNP though, I think they may win quite a few seats :(

They don't care about anyone except the upper classes mate, they never have, and they never will, despite the rhetoric and the illusion of "opportunity for all"... As for the economy "being in a good shape" erm.... I would dispute that actually, House Prices are a nightmare for start, especially in London where Public Sector workers cant even afford a mortgage, God help us if there is another Terrorist attack and all the off-duty coppers, firefighters and paramedics live about 30-50 miles out of the centre of the city; interest rates seem to be spiralling out of control and now the Governor of the Bank of England has written an open letter to the Chancellor expressing concern over inflation rates rising 1.1% above Govt predictions.... Not 'good' at all mate...
April 17, 200718 yr How would you vote if you where in England or no SNP candidate standing in your area? God knows! I've often wondered that one myself. It's why I can never move to England.

Not 'good' at all mate... The Tories care about setting people free Scott, less taxation, less bureaucracy, more power for people to dictate the course of their own lives as opposed to have politicians dictate it for them, more deregulation, less interference in our lives from unelected pen pushers in the EU, the Tories are about power to the people Labour is about centralisation and the nanny state and controlling every aspect of our lives, that's why I will never in my life put an X next to a Labour candidate :)

April 17, 200718 yr thats bollox m8... you forget convieniently that under thatcher taxes went UP, so did bureaucracy along with interest rates, mortgage rates and inflation! That was a consequence of a global recession it would have happened under any administration there was nothing Maggie could do about it. Under Maggie the top rate of tax fell from up to 98% to a flat 40% and basic rate from 40% to 28% over the lifetime of her administration Edited April 17, 200718 yr by Vic Vega
April 17, 200718 yr My mum doesn't bother voting I don't think. She said whatever you vote for the countries in a state... I will spare you and your mum the inevitable suffrogette lecture -_- Politicians rely on the apathy of the masses to walk all over us. If you dont vote - you have no right to complain about the actions of politicians - local OR national. @slick - within the next week or so you should have many people knocking on your door requesting your vote - give them a shock and ask them a question. My fav is "why should I vote for you?" ........ always good for a laugh
April 17, 200718 yr Got my card through today telling me about it, don't think I'll vote. ditto on the suffrogette lecture
April 17, 200718 yr There's no point us voting though because everyone votes conservative here, and we don't.

Are you kidding me...? VAT skyrocketed under the Tories and was put onto all sorts of things that never had VAT on them before... Or don't you consider VAT (which stands for Value Added TAX!!!) to be a tax at all then....? Privatisation of water, gas, electricity and rail has been utterly and totally DISASTROUS, without question... Bus deregulation has effectively cut off rural communities. And LESS BUREAUROCRACY?????   Well, just who was it that introduced LEGIONS of managers, accountants, and various other "admin" scum to the NHS...? Oh, that'll be the TORIES again with their NHS "reforms"...... <_< Oh, and let's not forget about all the other bureaucracy that teachers had to put up with.... If Labour was so much about Centralisation then how come they allowed votes on devolved Parliaments in Scotland and Wales...? Something the Tories certainly never countenanced while in power... The people clearly wanted Devolution, seeing as how both votes came out in favour of Devolved Parliaments.... :P

Under Maggie the top rate of tax fell from up to 98% to a flat 40% and basic rate from 40% to 28% over the lifetime of her administration the global recession didnt last 11 years m8! fact is that taxes overall rose under thatcher far greater then at any time before or since. unless you were paying 98% tax then why moan?
April 18, 200718 yr my vote in the locals are up in the air, after the Lib Dems showed themselves for the backstabbers they are
April 18, 200718 yr There's no point us voting though because everyone votes conservative here, and we don't. Register a Protest vote then, there's bound to be some Independent candidate..
April 18, 200718 yr There is no point recycling Maggie's entire legacy lol as it is totally off topic anyways ;) but the fact is she won 3 successive elections and her successor John Major won another one Yes the first election can be put down to the winter of discontent under Callaghan and the second one the Falklands was undoubtedly a factor but she still won the following one too and Major won the next one so in the eyes of the electorate Maggie was clearly doing a good job and they were pleased with what was going into their wallets at the end of the month as ultimately despite whatever people say in the opinion polls people vote with their wallets.

Every election the tories won after the Falklands one was a minority vote though Craig.... 36%... Do you call that being content...? I sure as hell dont... People who only vote with their wallets are idiots, because while all this 20% income tax sounds all very well, they totally fail to take into account interest rates, inflation, VAT, ALL of which contribute to them being ripped off far worse in the long run... The Tories invented the whole concept of "Stealth Taxes", which they have the nerve to criticise the Labour Govt over.... In my opinion, a higher rate of direct tax and the doing away with VAT is far more honest and a lot fairer....
April 18, 200718 yr Note to all current Labour voters who plan to bipolarly swing and vote for the Tories - try reading the other party policies first and don't blindly live in a 2 party zone. Yes, it's obvious who I vote for...and I'm lucky enough to live in an area where there's enough support to elect them.

Yes, it's obvious who I vote for...and I'm lucky enough to live in an area where there's enough support to elect them. Absolutely, I mean it's ridiculous to assume that pissed off Labour voters will vote Tory... The Lib Dems gained quite a bit out of people's discontent with Labour in the last General Election.. Basically this is my opinion - the 70s, Labour fukked the country up, the 80s and early 90s, the Tories fukked the country up, the late-90s and 00s, Nu Labour has fukked the country up..... Seems to me, voting Labour or Tory = fukkin' up the country.... Time to give the other guys a chance if you ask me....
April 18, 200718 yr People who only vote with their wallets are idiots, People have a duty to put their own self interest first in society Scott, I know I do and I always will, whoever is looking after my wallet the best out of the parties will get my vote and since I have been voting I have found tory policy to be the best one for my wallet and I don't feel guilty about that, my first duty is to myself and my family when it comes to politics and finance, when my family and me are alright I can start thinking of others but my vote will always go to whichever party is putting more money in my wallet
