May 2, 200718 yr Scottish people should be proud to be British, not trying to get out of it. Sure having some regional identity is cool, but as the UK we are one of the most respected (well, until 2003) nations. Splitting into four would see all that gone...
May 2, 200718 yr So that's why your voting for them. :P  I've always voted SNP. -_- Question? Are the Local Council elections in England still First Past the Post?

Sure having some regional identity is cool, but as the UK we are one of the most respected (well, until 2003) nations. Splitting into four would see all that gone... Scotland is not a 'region'. I have no 'regional' identity. I have a National Identity but it isn't British. Sorry, that's just how I feel. ^_^
May 2, 200718 yr are we having a big election thread tomorrow night like we did for the general election :kink:
May 3, 200718 yr Scotland is a country, not a region. Scotland only became entangled with England when her King James VI took over the throne of England and became their King James I......The Union Of The Crowns...... 1603. That's a point which always seems to be conveniently forgotten and IMHO it has been the arrogant take it or leave it English neo-colonialist attitude towards her Northern nation that has wrankled over the years. When the aristocracy agreed to the Union of Parliaments, the Scottish Parliament was not revoked but simply closed as Westminster is when a General Election is about to be held, in other words, until the next session. Thankfully some Scots had the nous to negotiate the retention of the Scottish Education system and Scots Law. From 1707 until Devolution, Scots had to put up with a loaded English majority voting in unpopular legislation, yet now after a few years, the English are moaning because for a few years 76 MPs from Scotland have had a vote on legislation which only affects England. England, unlike Scotland, has never faced a situation where the country had only one MP from the ruling party in Westminster. IMO part of the cause isn't nationalism but envy, because they see the Scottish parliament spending on things they'd like the Westminster government to do....eg University fees, free bus travel anywhere in Scotland for OAPs. I have voted and yes, I have voted SNP. As for being a respected nation, maybe, but my experience abroad was that I got a much warmer welcome, particularly in Europe and North America, if I said I was Scottish. May 3, 200718 yr I voted this morning and will hopefully be celebrating a wonderful landslide tory victory when I wake up tomorrow morning :cheer: ^_^ Bye bye Blair you murdering piece of $h!t may you have eternal nightmares about the women and children you slaughtered in cold blood in Iraq Hopefully see you in chains in The Hague where you belong !
May 3, 200718 yr Hopefully see you in chains in The Hague where you belong ! can we place him in the gallows next to Adolf Thatcher, for her dodgy dealings with despots, for taking Britain to war in a country we hadn't even bloody heard of, and for morphing our army into our police force when it suited her? Oh... and for her rampant homophobia, council tax, creating (and being proud of) the disgusting 'have or have-not' society.... and on.... In fact, let her face the firing squad - I'd happily pull the trigger on the lying, rancid old bast*rd. Vic, your politics make me sick to the pit of my stomach. And for you to come here gloating about your fascistic leanings.... vile.

And for you to come here gloating about your fascistic leanings.... vile. You make her sound like she was a tinpot dictator that stole power and cancelled free elections Russ, the fact is she was DEMOCRATICALLY elected 3 successive times and her successor more or less carrying on her policies was elected again so when you are insulting me you are insulting the sizeable proportion of this country that elected her policies on 4 occasions and her on 3 We have recycled her policies time and time again on this mb so no point doing it again but the fact is you cannot deny that she was a popular prime minister I am proud to be a tory I have voted for them in every election and will do so again and again. The fact that I am the only right wing tory in News/Perspectives does not make me wrong ;) There were some policies that she bought in that I did not like, I have made it clear MANY times that I condemn homophobia I was also against Greenham Common and in other areas I felt she did not go far enough but despite one or two policies she bought in that I did not like I still feel she is the best PM this country has ever had
May 3, 200718 yr And to brand me a fascist could not be further from the truth, I have the policies that I would bring in if I was PM on a 5 page Word document and many of those policies are actually quite socially liberal and anything but fascist, one day I might paste the document onto here to prove I am not a fascist, searching my posts you will see I have been one of the biggest defenders of single parents, of pensioners, of ethnic minorities, of gays and so on, yes very fascist :manson: Edited May 3, 200718 yr by Vic Vega

They don't, they pretend to give a sh!t so you'll give them your vote.. Thatcher proved she didn't care, right from the word go when she literally took the milk from out of children's mouths.... "Maggie Thatcher - Milk Snatcher" A sign of things to come, anyone capable of stealing milk off kids is capable of just about anything, and she proved it.... The Tories only care about the rich 5% and they've never altered this in anyway since their creation hundreds of years ago... I refuse to call them "The Conservative Party", they'll always be the old Tories to me.... And Baytree is spot on, we Scots saw through Thatcher pretty damn quickly, it's only you stupid English who couldn't see her for what she was..... :P

And Baytree is spot on, we Scots saw through Thatcher pretty damn quickly, it's only you stupid English who couldn't see her for what she was..... :P She invented Angel Delight though which to me is the best dessert ever invented ^_^ I still trust my wallet far more with the tories than I do Labour and I don't ever see that changing, I do vote with my wallet - tax and the economy are the most important consideration to me when I am voting as well as which party is going to cut the burden of red tape I have to deal with with my work, the tories are not perfect but they tick the most boxes for me compared with their rivals, that does not mean that I blindly support every policy nodding dog fashion that comes out of CCO but I do feel more confident about my financial prosperity under the tories than I do under any other party and I really do not see that changing. I am not a wealthy man, comfortable yes but certainly not wealthy but despite my working class/council house roots I live a middle class lifestyle and I feel the tories are the party that represent the middle classes which is where I aspire to remain financially. I worked out the other day that all in all I am £2400 a year worse off under Blair than I was under Major, that may not sound a huge amount but it gives me less and less confidence to ever vote Labour
May 3, 200718 yr In Wales, too, she was the most unpopular Prime Minister EVER. In fact, I expect street parties when she finally, belatedly pops her sorry clogs. Surely it's time? ENGLAND, SOUTHERN England voted for Thatcher. And she was elected because the Tories cleverly shifted voting boundaries, remember. Hardly democratic. The divide with Scotland, Wales and England was made a gulf BECAUSE of Thatcher - nobody else voted her in, remember. Even the north/south divide widened because of it. And I stand by my viewpoint that ANY supporter of Thatcher is a fascist. HAS to be a fascist to support her policies.
May 3, 200718 yr Bye bye Blair you murdering piece of $h!t may you have eternal nightmares about the women and children you slaughtered in cold blood in Iraq Hopefully see you in chains in The Hague where you belong ! Totally agree here (but not on the part of your post about Tory landslides.... :P ), I've heard B-Liar is quitting as PM next week, probably after PM's Questions I would imagine, just like his mentor, Thatcher... God, he really is just xeroxing everything that she did isn't he...? I would love to see B-Liar in the dock for war crimes, but it aint gonna happen is it...? I think the only way realistically he'll receive any kind of just desserts is by an assassin's bullet.... <_<
May 3, 200718 yr Blair was on GMTV the other day saying the NHS has improved over the last decade. He's talking complete rubbish!

Agree fully, if he was Pinnochio his nose would stretch to the moon right now given all his lies while being in power -_- More money is indeed going into the NHS than ever before but it is not going towards beds and doctors and nurses it is being swallowed up in management (7 tiers of management in NHS :manson: )and by the obsession with targets like Blair is wrecking the education system with

BUT, who introduced these various tiers of management and admin in the first place Craig..? Who introduced the bureaucracy into the Education system...? Why, that would be the TORIES.....
May 3, 200718 yr Blair was on GMTV the other day saying the NHS has improved over the last decade. He's talking complete rubbish! with all due respects, you're 17 years old, so you wouldn't remember the state Thatcher and her henchmen left the NHS in in the 80s, and carried over to the early 90s. Her 'have and have-nots' idea of managing the health service ensured you only got an operation if you could pay for it yourself. Waiting lists are DOWN now, and in Wales the majority of people wait less than 18 months for an op. 15 years ago, the average wait for an NHS operation was up to FIVE YEARS. I can assure you the NHS is far, far healthier now than it was then. Still a long way from acceptable, but infinitely better than it was.
May 3, 200718 yr oh my where to start replying!!! lol baytree.... the romans had the right idea... build a bloody great wall to keep you lot OUT! lol russ....... i agree, tory voters are fascists by default! well, thatcher voters anyway. and yes the health service IS in a better state then it was previously. craig..... thatcher is the most unpopular pm of recent times, she may have won elections but thats because the opposing vote was split... the facts are that more people voted against her then for her.
