Rihanna maintaining pole position

22 May 2007 - 11:06:49

Source: Music Week

Rihanna’s Umbrella single (Mercury) looks set to stay atop the singles chart, keeping Maroon 5’s Makes Me Wonder (A&M/Octone) stuck at number two.

Having sold double the units already, Umbrella is currently enjoying strong airplay support across the board. There may be little movement in the singles Top five overall this week, as Hellogoodbye’s Here In Your Arms (Drive-Thru), Beyonce & Shakira’s Beautiful Liar (Columbia) and Snow Patrol’s Signal Fire (Fiction) are all likely to hold fast.

Scooch’s Eurovision entry Flying The Flag (Warners) is spiralling downwards though. After a brief spell in the Top 10 it is currently sitting at 21.

The hotly-tipped Booty Luv is enjoying steady sales, with new single Shine (Hed Kandi) still at number 10.

Ex-Sugababe Mutya Bueno is edging up the singles chart too, after Real Girl (Fourth & Broadway) debuted at number 11 last week. This week she is set to be well within the Top 10.

Following huge demand for Linkin Park’s new album last week, Maroon 5 looks likely to storm the chart with It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (A&M/Octone). The album has sold 11,000 more copies than Linkin Park’s Minutes To Midnight (Warners) already this week.

Mika, with Life In Cartoon Motion (Casablanca/Island), and Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black are still holding strong in the Top 10, having been in the album chart for 15 weeks and 29 weeks respectively.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Trip The Light Fantastic (Fascination) looks likely to be a new entry into the Top 10 albums, currently sitting at number seven.

I reckon Maroon five will easily be number one in the albums - And i think Rhinanna will be numbetr one in singles followed by Maroon five, Bey+Sha and then Mutya.

No big new contenders in the singles then...I'd be surprised if any of the new releases went top 10 :-(

Hope Scooch don't fall too far...I know their downloads have dropped right away but they were physical No.1 last week so hopefully they'll continue to sell cd's and dvd's

i reckon rihanna will stay number 1

Maroon 5 will get the #1 album

and Sophie will be top 15 :P

I doubt any of the new entries will make top 10 at all...

Pigeon Detectives, R Kelly and Kaisers to be top 20.

I'd expect maybe Infernal, Arcade Fire to chart 21-40 with MAYBE the Mims and The Fray in the top 40 on downloads.

Either way Mutya will be the only new song in the top 10 this week replacing Scooch.

Linkin Park better hold off Maroon 5 though I don't see it coming and hopefully SEB and hellogoodbye manage respectable positions. Both albums are amongst my favourites so far this year.

Glad for Booty Luv and Mutya Bueno? You mean Buena  :P

WOW :o at Sophie!

Didn't expect that but WELL DONE! :D

The UK charts are starting to look a bit like the US one lol...doesn't matter if the single does too well, the album should do! :D

SOPHIE TOP 10!!!!

I hope she stays there! The albums is more than amazing! She simply chose a bad second single...

Good for Sophie, much higher than her last album if it stays top 10 (or above No.19 anyway)

Scooch's drop was expected tbh, Eurovision's over now...

WOW. :o SEB has done much better than I ever expected.

And I knew hellogoodbye would climb. :cheer:

Not too sure, the report says there is little movement, top 5 could be non-movers.

Great for Sophie! Hope she can hold on the top10!

I'll be buying it in London on Saturday

c**p week this week, but i think top 5 will go:

5 Snow Patrol

4 Hellogoodbye

3 Beyonce/Shakira

2 Maroon 5

1 Rihanna

Mutya top 10 definetly, Kaisers, R Kelly and Pigeon Detectives somewhere and hopefully infernal and Tim Deluxe between 40 and 25

Pleasantly surprised & relieved for SEB, after the moderate performance of her singles.

Whoever wrote that report must have been very hungry

Bah! At Maroon 5 in the albums
