I would be glad if either option appeared but it's not looking too good.

Its been 4 month now. Any news on this. It would be a shame to lose this book.
There is a new Hit Singles due to appear on November 6, only singles though not albums. It's not going to be Guinness though, rather it will be The Virgin Book Of British Hit Singles

Unless they're going to have up to June, what's the point in releasing it in November, when it'll be almost a year out of date?

Two & a half years *less* out of data than Guinness, though...

Such a shame, I like it when we get both the singles and albums
Are the chart runs included in this bible?

thx

No one knows until it's published!!! Unless the author's a member on this website (Which I doubt)

it's the same format as the Guinness series so no actual chart runs, just date of entry, peak position and weeks on chart.

I have read elsewhere from someone who saw a sample page that while all songs that have gone top 75 are listed, the weeks on chart is only shown for songs that actually made the top 40 and additionally are only the weeks the songs were actually in the top 40.

The amazon link has the sample pages but they are too small to see, but a poster at another board HAS seen them in proper size and it's top 40 weeks only.

I liked the Guiness one :( Borrowed the last edition from my friend and never gave it back lol. It's like my bible when I cba to go on the computer and get into a big musical debate with my friend about her love for the god awful Boyzone.

Shame there isn't another one.

Can I order the book even though I am US citizen?

if you get it via amazon.co.uk there won;t be a problem, I've ordered things from amazon.com and have received them with no problem.

The only problem might be the shipping costs but even they don't seem that bad unless you want the book by Priority Express which will effectively more than double the price:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/d...nodeId=11072991

that would be £13 for the book and £18.99 for delivery, which is £31.99 or US $58.57 at current exchange rates. Without Priority Express it is Airmail Delivery and is £13 + £3.99 delivery = £16.99 or US $31.10. By November the exchange rate should be favour of the Dollar so the price should be lower...

The book may even end up selling at amazon.com as an import - some previous versions are on sale there now.

EDIT: actually the new version is on amazon.com so they obviously plan to stock it at the US version of amazon at some point:

*That* format won't last long - I can't see chart fans going for it.

I think that's pointless. If this is the case I will not be buying it. Actually the official chart is now Top 100 - according to the Official Charts Company as they now publish the Top 100 on their site but without any weeks on chart.

They have published the Top 100 since the singles and downloads charts amalgamated.

if Hit Singles does appear with only top 40 weeks listed I too agree it is pointless, though I will probably still buy it. And yes, Music Week should start to carry the top 100 now, so it becomes "officially official" and therefore used for the likes of Hit Singles. In a way Music Week has already recognised positions 76-100 as being official. On the Airplay chart that Music Week publishes, the sales position of each song is also listed alongside all the airplay data (assuming the song is on the sales chart, of course). In recent times Music Week has listed the sales position if the song is in the top 100, at one time it was just the top 75.

Music Week is about to be relaunched with an apparently improved charts section, let's hope that the main chart becomes a top 100.

I hope they improve the charts on the web, not just on the magazine. I think its about time they posted the top 100 singles and albums, if OCC does it, I can't see why they should follow their footsteps.

As for the Hit Singles book, I probably still buy it, its a shame they had to end the Guinness version at such an oldd no. (version 19).

The sad thing is that if this 'New' Book does not sell very well, then

it may be the first & last 'Virgin Hit Singles' Book.

When in fact, it would have sold badly due to the Format, &

it not having enough information in it for Chart Fans. Especially

as it has no Album Data in it - which is less than we got in the 2006

Guinness Book, to begin with.

I'm told that its Trivia/Statistics Section is comprehensive. We will see.....
