Pentagon confirms it sought to build a 'gay bomb'

A Berkeley watchdog organization that tracks military spending said it uncovered a strange US military proposal to create a hormone bomb that could purportedly turn enemy soldiers into homosexuals and make them more interested in sex than fighting.

Pentagon officials on Friday confirmed to CBS5 that military leaders had considered, and then subsquently rejected, building the so-called "gay bomb."

Edward Hammond, of Berkeley's Sunshine Project, had used the freedom of information act to obtain a copy of the proposal from the air force's Wright laboratory in Dayton, Ohio.

As part of a military effort to develop non-lethal weapons, the proposal suggested, "one distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behavior."

The documents show the air force lab asked for $7.5 million to develop such a chemical weapon.

"The Ohio air force lab proposed that a bomb be developed that contained a chemical that would cause enemy soldiers to become gay, and to have their units break down because all their soldiers became irresistably attractive to one another," Hammond said after reviewing the documents.

"The notion was that a chemical that would probably be pleasant in the human body in low quantities could be identified, and by virtue of either breathing or having their skin exposed to this chemical, the notion was that soliders would become gay," explained Hammond.

The Pentagon told CBS5 that the proposal was made by the air force in 1994.

"The department of defense is committed to identifying, researching and developing non-lethal weapons that will support our men and women in uniform," said a dod spokesperson, who indicated that the "gay bomb" idea was quickly dismissed.

However, Hammond said the government records he obtained suggest the military gave the plan much stronger consideration than it has acknowledged.

"The truth of the matter is it would have never come to my attention if it was dismissed at the time it was proposed," he said. "In fact, the Pentagon has used it repeatedly and subsequently in an effort to promote non-lethal weapons, and in fact they submitted it to the highest scientific review body in the country for them to consider."

Military officials insisted Friday to CBS5 that they are not currently working on any such idea and that the past plan was abandoned.

Gay community leaders in california said friday that they found the notion of a "gay bomb" both offensive and almost laughable at the same time.

^ That sums it up.

I heard this on the news this morning, they were taking the p*** out of it quite rightfully on Chris Moyles show. If it wasn't so funny it'd be offensive!
If there are any soldiers in the closet though and them and a load of others get bombed, it could work to their advantage. ^_^
eh?... so only gays are interested in sex? and hetros arnt all all obsessed!!! t****.

They made it into "gay bomb" though because they're mainly men around where they're likely to get bombed I'm guessing.

What happens if the gay bomb went off, sorry blonde moment time
This sounds like total nonsense to me.... I dont even know if such a thing is scientifically feasible anyway.... And Rob is quite correct, as if hetero soldiers aren't averse to sexual conquests... The Serb Rape Squads anyone....? <_< <_<
rotfl...wtf?

Yes, I recall this USA 'Gay Bomb' idea being mentioned

a few Years ago. I found the way the US Military talked about it,

offensive. (I am Gay).

They said that they, 'Know it is distasteful', but the bomb would

stop 'The enemy' from trying to kill USA Troops, & 'engage in disgusting

sex acts, with each other, instead'.

So, basically, the US Military thinks that it is acceptable for Men to kill

each, in Wars, but for Men to have sex with each other is,

'Disgusting'!

They are clearly 100% twisted! A pity that they never developed

the 'Gay Bomb' - and accidently dropped it on The Pentagon!!!!!

Oh, it would not be beyond them to make such a mistake - after all

US Troops, & US Air Force Pilots, have killed several UK Troops, in

'Friendly Fire' incidents!

And these are the sorts of fukkers actually responsible for running the USA.... <_< Dear or dear...... Security of the Free World sure is safe in those hands innit....???

Scott Much as I despise Bush this was in 1994 so that would have been under Bill Clinton's regime

I think those four-star Generals who are currently occupying the Pentagon are likely to be the same four-star Generals who were there during the Clinton admin though..... You actually still believe the President actually runs America....??  Man, it's the Military Industrial Complex.....

Perhaps when the bomb goes off, it emits galloping wafts of sweet Thiery Mugler Angel aftershave over the enemy...... this making them 'irresistable' to each other? :P

Cancer, AIDs, extreme poverty..... hmm.... maybe those millions could have been spent a little more wisely....
