Some of you will have seen this on the other boards I post it on but for those who haven't....

 

Each week I'll be posting the official Irish charts - Top 50 singles, Top 100 Artist Albums and Top 30 compilations. The charts are compiled purely from sales and are revealed every Friday aftenoon on the country's main radio station 2FM - the equivalent of the BBC's Radio 1. The sales week runs from Friday morning to Thursday afternoon and new releases appear in the shops on a Frday normally. As the majority of singles and albums are released in the same sales week as the UK this means that Irish fans can buy the latest releases a couple of days before their UK counterparts.

 

As well as posting the full charts I'll also be providing a bit of historical information. On the singles chart I'll be giving a full chart run for each of the Top 50 and for the 2 album charts I'll give each album's last 13 positions.

 

The charts will normally be posted on a Saturday but if I have enough time I may have them finished by Friday evenings.

How do legal downloads work in Ireland?

if you go into itunes, at the bottom of the page you can scroll through the different countries that have there own itunes , they have one for ireland.

There are a few Irish download sites - there's a link to them on the homepage of the IRMA website. At present download sales don't count towards the Irish chart - its purely what is sold in the shops but IRMA are currently in the process of sorting out a downloads-only chart which should be starting around the start of June. If that goes well they should start incorporating download sales into the main chart by the end of the year.

 

Inicidentally if you're in the UK you can still buy from the Irish sites. I actually live near Belfast and am therefore in the UK but I was able to buy a couple of songs from one of the sites. The price was in Euros (1 Euro 29) and it took the equivalent (approx 90p) off my card. Quite handy for obtaining Irish only singles - the likes of Jumbo Breakfast Roll when you can't get the actual CD single!

Jsut out of curiosity, where do you get the Top 100 albums? The Chart Track website I use only has the Top 75 :(

The IRMA site www.irma.ie has the Top 100 and also Top 30 compilations (compared to Chart Track's Top 20).

 

BTW for those who didn't already know there was a new chart archive site launched back in February which includes a fully searchable singles database going right back to October 62. There are several factual errors but its worth a look! www.irishcharts.ie
