August 23, 200717 yr Wow...they're a little late with the review aren't they??? I think it's a repost...I am sure that I have read it before...so they are cheating I think.
August 23, 200717 yr It only got posted yesterday, very I strange indeed  Well it's defo a repost....probably nothing else to write about......... :w00t:
August 23, 200717 yr I use my MP3 player quite a lot , especially on the way to & from work. The only tracks believe it or not that I skip on that album are the covers ( exception ' Lovelight )...I have listed to it tons of times now & I cannot understand why RW put so many tracks on the album ...I personally think it kinda spoilt & that it would have stood up on it's own without the covers.Rudebox the single has become one of my fabourites & unfortunately I have not warmed to She's Madonna even though it has done brilliant worldwide....what a response it has got. I still have not figured out which version made it onto the USA Dance Charts...any idea which one. I love the remixes of Bongo Bong....the album has done pretty well all round given the $h!t that went on with the tabs...but at least RW has to be happy with the great music critics reviews that the album got.....the music critics are really hard to please & do not give good reviews willy nilly.....
August 23, 200717 yr I think the reason there are so many covers, is because it was not a proper Robbie album, like say IC, where he planned and spent years writing it. He did say, he had written loads of great songs, and thought to himself one day 'why not put these on an album', and he also said he wanted to put on songs he has always loved and wanted to cover, so on a whole I think the album was intended as a bit of a side project. Something experimental, because I don't think he would put as many covers on a proper studio album. That is why it was released out of the blue with so little promotion, because in that interview in 2005 about IC, he said that he really did'nt want to go on tour, but did as he so wanted IC to have the best chance it could have, because he wanted it to be so successful. Obviously he did'nt feel anywhere near as strongly with Rudebox or he would've done at least a few TV apperences, especialyl after the tour had finished and it became obvious the album needed a boost. A one off TV special would've really helped alot. Actually, I listened to the album from start to finish last week and just enjoyed it so much, as much as i Did back in October of last year when it first came out. It is just such a fresh sounding, brilliant album. The divercity is simply amazing, and I think the covers fit in perfectly with the originals, despite them all sounding so different from eachother  It is still selling in the UK, #173 this week, so it will get to half a million sales eventually. It will definatly go downas his most under-rated album ever for me, I mean those millions who usually buy his albums but have been put off this due to all the negetivity and the very different lead single, don't know what they are missing and should be ashamed. It is just such a brilliant album :D

September 22, 20204 yr Interesting read & opinion Rudebox – The hidden gem of Robbie Williams’ career. JUNE 25, 2017 MARCYB0Y https://themusicbx.wordpress.com/2017/06/25...illiams-career/
September 23, 20204 yr And to remind us what brilliant reviews Rudebox got, I will re-post these highlights from the old Rudebox thread. The press would have you believe it got panned, CLEARLY it did'nt. NME - 8/10 'Rudebox is the best thing he's ever put his name to. F***ing about on laptops with the likes of Lily Allen and Pet Shop Boys, he has hit on a fun, frantic, pisstaking mixtape of crystalline 80s electropop... it is an amazing pop album.' MOJO - 4/5 - "Rudebox is another flick of the Vs to all those who doubt the substance behind Robbie William's incorrigible irrepressibility...An Intriguing , funny and inventive listen... A golden showcase of millenial pop." UNCUT -3/4 "The Funniest, most adventurous and liveliest record of his career... A career high." MUSIC WEEK- "bonkers, witty...and hugely likeable". THE TIMES - 'Williams' blossoming facility as a wordsmith repeatedly take the breath away.' ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE - 4/5 - "A magnificent pop lesson... The best album of his career" THE TELEGRAPH – “madly compelling album. If you stumbled across this on MySpace, you might think a pop genius had been born” POP JUSTICE- “It is the best album of Robbie's career” THE STAR - 4/5 – “Excellent” DAILY EXPRESS - 4/5 - "most accomplished record to date SUNDAY HEARALD – “It's a fabulous and funky mix of rap and rock that will have you scooting across the dancefloor in a flash.” MELBOURNE HEARALD SUN – 4/5 – “After a few ropey auotpilot albums that seemingly pleased everyone but himself, Robbie's returned to being a risk-taking, divisive, exciting pop star not afaid to shed fans to save his sanity. Welcome back.” ENTERTAINMENT.IE – 4/5 “Rudebox is a thrilling return to form that suggests that Williams still has a hell of a lot to offer” POPMATTERS – 7/10 “Rudebox is an astounding, brave release. ALL MUSIC GUIDE - 4/5 "displays an edge and a wicked sense of fun sorely missing from most mainstream pop... THE METRO – 4/5 - "undeniably versatile" Just reading back through this thread. Love this post. ^_^
September 24, 20204 yr Just reading back through this thread. Love this post. ^_^ They were the real deal music critics back in the day , unfortunately a lot of them no longer exist so now it's social media driven with everyone at times giving an uniformed opinion , they base their critique on whether they like the person or not , all very superficial ... Now would be the right time to do a Rudebox PT2 , I grew to love the album over the years, hard to believe it's 13 yrs ago since all the hoo-haa occurred
September 24, 20204 yr if you read that how was the perception created then that it was a failure? I guess because it sold 500,000 copies in UK instead of 2m. It's all relative isn't it. Artists are happy to sell 100K now. That's mad isn't it.
September 27, 20204 yr REVIEWS ALBUM REVIEWS Robbie Williams: Rudebox Your least favourite popstar’s gone electro and it’s – whisper it – good By nme 23rd October 2006 Looking at the headline, it seems that there was sense of embarrassment in saying that anything that Robbie did was good, was that brought about by Robbie himself acting like an idiot or brought about by a lack of confidence & self belief at times & hiding the fact that he was a really good songwriter https://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews-robbie-...ams-8052-317832
September 27, 20204 yr I think that he way to undermine himself, put himself out as light entertainer and keeping things less serious put him in a certain corner which does not allow serious music press and people to recognize him. For me that is the reason people today see him more as cliff Richard rather than tom jones
