Tbh it's always been like the writers couldn't decide what she was addicted to and so chose everything.

 

First it was gambling. Then they decided she was Callum's mum so it was drugs too because they wanted at least a little consistency. And with all that, they thought why not throw alcohol in the mix because reasons.

I didn't think there would ever be another Didge level character but the youngest kid is very close already.
