August 12, 200717 yr lovin the fact Sky made the Chelski advertising boards skip past the ads for Setanta Sports :smoke:
August 12, 200717 yr Rooney has gone off with an injured foot at half time :o Nani has replaced him for the 2nd half
August 12, 200717 yr Radio 5 Live have just announced that Man Utd medical team suspect Wayne Rooney has broken a metatarsal bone in his foot. If true he will be out of football for 6-10 weeks which is very bad news for Steve McClaren & England.
August 12, 200717 yr I'm suprised Man Utd have drawn with Reading. :o Reading set out with a good game plan though and you can't fault them for that.
August 12, 200717 yr Author On a personal level that Reading game was about as frustrating as they come. Reading obviously had a gameplan to man mark all the attacking players and for some reason Ronaldo decide to stay on the right for a good 60 minutes of the match! Not swapping at all, like he used to do so frequently last season  Hats off to Reading though, they had a strategy that they stuck to excellently. As for Wayne, I'm just glad we've bought Tevez now, they play an almost identical role ...
August 12, 200717 yr Tevez is set for the next match too.... Shame really, had Rooney not had his injury I'm sure Utd were bound to have wrapped it up in 2nd half Readings tactic was a good one though
August 14, 200717 yr Typical, Reading play like that to get a good result = great tactics Chelsea do it to get a good result (FA Cup) = they get lynched
August 14, 200717 yr Typical, Reading play like that to get a good result = great tactics Chelsea do it to get a good result (FA Cup) = they get lynched  No, Reading are a team with limited resources who need to use negative tactics to get a result against the top sides. It's not pretty but it was effective on Sunday. Chelsea are a team with almost unlimited resources who should be able to get a result by outplaying their opponents. They shouldn't need to bore their opponents into submission.
August 14, 200717 yr But Mourinho has always built that Chelsea side around a top defence. It's certainly their main threat whilst United's main threat is all attacking. It was a must win game for him and he stopped Man Utd from being able to play how they wanted and played to their strenghts. That's good tactics...
August 14, 200717 yr But that's why Chelsea are unpopular. They've achieved success by having a solid defence which is boring to watch. Under Kevin Keegan Newcastle were popular because they were a good attacking side. Of course, the fact that they couldn't defend at all just added to the entertainment but at least they were good to watch. Under Ranieri Chelsea were a team I would generally choose to watch when they were on Sky. Under Mourinho I often don't bother. However, I would choose to see Reading against one of the top sides because I can see whether Steve Coppell can out think the opposing manager and achieve a result even with a vastly inferior team.
August 14, 200717 yr Spend £40m over the summer and we are treated to 2 DISGRACEFUL displays like this so far *goes to Betfair to bet on Jol being first manager to be fired*
August 14, 200717 yr Watch some clips of the Chelsea - Birmingham match and two of the Chelsea goals where down to poor goalkeeping. Chelsea can't depend on the opponents making such mistakes for the rest of the season.
August 15, 200717 yr Spend £40m over the summer and we are treated to 2 DISGRACEFUL displays like this so far *goes to Betfair to bet on Jol being first manager to be fired* But you did basically have your THIRD choice defence out though! You'd have done so much better if you had King and Dawson back and if you didn't try and play all your strikers at the same time and bugger up the whole shape of your team. You'd be totally STUPID to sack someone who's been your best manager in 15 years.
August 15, 200717 yr I never buy the you played your 3rd choice defence excuse. Football teams have SQAUDS for a reason, and that is to cover and play for the team as well as first choice to prove their point. Jol's substitutions yesterday were bizarre to say the least, I mean putting Zokora to left back, whilst bringing on Routledge
August 15, 200717 yr Exactly Matt Jol has been doing this for the last 2 years many times he has left Spurs fans scratching their heads with the most bizarre substitutions and tactical changes
