Most 'serious' film fans cite The Shawshank Redemption as one of the best films ever - it was ignored on release and grew on video to almost ledgendary status.

Is it really that good though? Or, when you watch it, do you think it is better than it really is as you know so many other people love it?

I've watched it again and again ... and it just gets better with each viewing. I like the fact that it has two endings. I like Red. I like the way Tim Robbins takes a back seat and lets others shine! I like the opera bit! I love the whole thing. I like the fact that bad people eventually get what's coming to them. The Shawshank Redemption isn't just a film ... to me .... its an experience! Everyone I've recommended this film to has been glad that I have done just that!

Ive gotta say, I do think its an amazing film.

I just love it when he escapes through the sewage.

One of my favourite films, the catch at the end when everything unfolds is just excellent.

I've observed that too. I mean, that old films generally seems classic, i don't know why.

in Poland we've got some old films, mostly comedies, and I don't enjoy it but everybody looks at me as if I was insane...

Oh, i don't know the international titles, but i don't like this movie with Jach Nickolson - Flynig over Coocoo's nest, sth like that ( only know polish title and I'm not in the mood for checking it right now, sorry :)) And the second one, with him, based on King's book..

"Skazani na Shawshank", the movie in a original post, is so-so. I don't like those kinds of films...

"Shawshank.." is a good film, but it is somewhat over-rated tbh... In some ways "The Green Mile" is a better film, but the one thing that "Shawshank..." did do was to finally wake everyone up to the fact that Morgan Freeman is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood, and, yeah, he damn well should have got that Best Actor Oscar....

I don't think the Shawshank Redemption can be rated highly enough. As for Morgan Freeman missing out on an Oscar - nothing stood a chance in the year that the overlong music video that was Forrest Gump won just about everything. Now if ever a film was overrated .....

Totally with you on that one.. I despise "Forrest Gump" with a passion.. A thoroughly detestable, overly-sentimental, typically hometown American piece of garbage.... -_- Cheap nostalgia for the masses.....

I hate Shrek. And everyone seems to like that.

Oh my god I can't bare Pulp Fiction. Probabaly due to the fact that it had John Travolta in it, that man has to be the lamest actor next to Antony Cotton. Seen face off, Nic cage acted him off the screen. Broken arrow? Love that film except his scenes the peice of $h!te!

Not a huge fan of Quentin, although loved his episodes of Alias and CSI. The only good thing about Jackie Brown was the sound track, the only movie ive been to where i've actually seen people walk out of the movie, by the end I think nearly half of the audience had walked.

Pulp Fiction is one of the greatest and most original films ever made :o And John Travolta is a legend, far better than the (most of the time) wooden Nic Cage imo. Travolta's performance along with Sam Jackson was absolutely brilliant if you ask me. Among the most memorable in modern cinema history, their performance was just gold.

As for over-rated, Titanic has to be up there. I also think Million Dollar Baby was somewhat over-rated thh.

Pulp fiction is overrated :manson:

LOVE SHAWSHANK though!

I hated the Godfather, don't see why it's so good. Perhaps it's too old for my likings.
Dear god someone thinks John Travolta is good, u should start up a fan club, think I met someone else once who liked him, think it was at a screening for Look Who's Talking Now!!

How can anyone dislike Pulp Fiction ? :o :o :o

Samuel L Jackson gave one of the best performances ever in that movie

Ezekiel 25:17 part of the movie is for me the best movie performance I have ever seen

It was just the combination of John and Quentin 4 me
What does everyone think of The Lord Of The Rings? its my fave film and alot of people love it.
