Posted September 4, 200718 yr Hard-Fi outrunning Athlete for number one spot 04 September 2007 - 11:25:54 Source MW Hard-Fi look certain to make it two number ones out of two album releases as second set Once Upon A Time In The West establishes a commanding lead in early-week sales. The Atlantic signings, whose first album Stars Of CCTV reached number one in January 2006, are therefore expected to deny a second album chart-topper for Parlophone’s Athlete, whose newly-issued Beyond The Neighbourhood is being outsold by Hard-Fi by more than two copies to one. The Hard-Fi and Athlete albums lead what is a busy week for new albums with first sets from Angel/Hollywood’s Plain White T’s and RCA Label Group’s Sean Kingston both expected to debut within the Top 10 on Sunday. The Plain White T’s album Every Second Counts has already spent six months on the US albums chart, peaking at number 10, while Sean Kingston’s self-titled debut features the UK’s current number one single Beautiful Girls. The Proclaimers, who signed to Universal-affiliated W14 earlier this year on the back of a Comic Relief-aided revival, are set for a Top 20 debut with new album Life With You, while Pink Floyd’s debut album The Piper At The Gates Of Down is on course for a Top 20 return for EMI thanks to a 40th anniversary re-issue. Other albums chart new entries within the Top 40 are expected from Pure’s Kate Rusby and Polydor-signed Jamie Scott & The Town. Over on singles Polydor’s Girls Aloud, Atlantic’s James Blunt and Epic’s Scouting For Girls are set to boost UK fortunes in the Top 10 following the biggest domination last Sunday by overseas acts at the top end of the chart in a decade and a half. Following their physical debuts, Girls Aloud’s Sexy No No No and Blunt’s 1973 are both challenging for top five places, while Scouting For Girls’ She’s So Lovely – also newly-available physically – is looking a strong bet to move into the Top 10 for the first time. However, despite the strengthened British position, this coming Sunday’s top three could well be an-all-American affair again comprising Sean Kingston, Mercury’s Kanye West and Plain White T’s. Sony BMG’s oncoming Elvis Presley’s re-issues campaign will generate another hit this week in the shape of (Let Me Be Your) Teddybear, which is expected to be the singles chart’s highest new entry. Among the acts set to make double-figure chart climbs on the back of being released physically for the first time are Kitchenware/Columbia act Editors with An End Has A Start and Southern Fried-signed Armand Van Helden’s I Want Your Soul, while W14’s Siouxsie Sioux is looking to score her first Top 40 hit since The Rapture (with The Banshees) peaked at 33 in 1995. ========================================== Singles 01 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls 02 Kanye West - Stronger 03 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah Top 5 Girls Aloud - Sexy!
