September 8, 200717 yr That's a great idea! B) Or perhaps invite the OCC the sue, but pack the jury with Buzzjack members... :) Edited September 8, 200717 yr by vidcapper
September 8, 200717 yr we should help Polyhex pay the OCC to get him a license. Good idea. The question is how much does it cost?
September 8, 200717 yr I was visiting a certain site that shall remain nameless in case it is banned here but...they seem to have thought of something else not mentioned here yet (or at least that I've seen). This could also affect Buzzjack directly. All those threads with the old charts that are lingering in the archives? I'm betting the OCC wouldn't like those either.
September 8, 200717 yr and does he visit the site? He made a cover once for the single cover design comp. ;)
September 8, 200717 yr Polyhex visited chcmedia to explain. He said if he wanted to buy a license just to use info from this weeks chart, last weeks chart and a 'random' week in history it would cost around £100. So unless anyone's got about 50k they don't want....

September 9, 200717 yr Am I right in saying the OCC are objecting to Polyhex having the current chart on his website and not the chart runs. Chart runs cannot breach copyright surely ! Edited September 9, 200717 yr by fiesta
September 9, 200717 yr Though chart runs are not in breach of copyright ! I think this is a bit of a murky area - I don't see how chart runs are a breach of copyright, but I think having a dedicated database of charts could be? It also depends on where you draw the line when information is in the 'public domain'.
September 9, 200717 yr yeh but the polyhex website wasnt a database of charts otherwise I could see their point. It was a database of chart runs, which is information he had extracted from the charts and expressed in his own way. I'm not an expert on copyright laws but I'm pretty sure this isnt a violation of any copyright laws. :)
September 9, 200717 yr Copyright law is rather tricky, and I am sure open to interpretation. It seems that the OCC have decided they do own the copyright to all the previous charts.
September 9, 200717 yr Oh well..there is one way round it though. Polyhex could ask the occ if they would put the chart database up on THEIR website for people to use. Someone else has done this on the OCC website with their album chart history (stats and facts section)

The OCC are really shooting thmselves in the foot over this, interest in the chart is waning, and they should be encouraging not discouraging the interest shown by our small community of sites :(

September 9, 200717 yr What makes you say interest in the chart is waning? Well, I guess I am basing that on the poor sales of singles these days - it would be only logical to assume that there is less interest in the chart?
