would it work the other way around?... could a bloke from here work in poland and have his wife claim polish benefits and ship them back here?

In theory it might work I suppose... How many Brit ex-pats in Poland though....? And given the current exchange rates, I doubt it would be worth very much.....

Yes it would work the other way round. But, in your example, there'd be no point as the benefit here is higher (as, of course, are wages and the general cost of living).

yeah but it would be worthless in the uk.

it may go far in poland but our cost of living is a lot higher

Actually, from what my girlfriend's been telling me, prices are on a pretty sharp increase in Poland... And, as is typical really, wages aint rising to cover it.... People aint really got a choice, they have to leave their country to find decent paid jobs.....

thats a shame,

they still shouldn't steal our tax money

steal??

how do you work that out?

Surely as the men are paying tax and national insurance here they are as entitled to tax credits as you or I?

...and even Princess Diana got family allowance

why? the family doesn't live here!

thats my problem, fair do's if they lived here. but the fact that the cash is taken out of our economy is what i don't like

I think you can be sure they take less than the husband pays in .....

if they lived here would take a LOT more out of our economy.

they already take benefits, what else can they sponge off us, if the farther has a decent enough job then they will be able 2 rent/buy a house

Sponge?

I consider it sponging to take from a pot you haven't contributed to.

Child tax credit is the 'replacement' for married man's tax allowance. Nobody would have batted an eyelid at this man receiving that as was written into your tax code.

Tax credit is not a benefit - it is an entitlement to a British tax payer who is responsible for raisng children.

Family allowance is not a benefit. It is an entitlement to a british tax payer who is responsible for raising children.

The rules state that family allowance must be paid to the mother of those children. (it is actually quite a difficult and lengthy process to have it paid to the father. ) This was designed to ensure it was actually spent on the children. (not ideal but an attempt)

So this man has 2 kids. If he earns £37,000 a year he will be paying approx £500 tax per month & £250 national insurance per month.

Family allowance for 2 kids is £120.80 per month and tax credit at that wage will be £40.48 per month

so in return for paying £750 per month he "sponges" £161.28!

this whole story is another xenphobic panic story.

I will refrain from ranting about feckless chavy mothers and the other such benefit claimants I see each day. But they don't pay a penny in and "sponge" a damn sight more!!!

there not benefits?

in that case, i'll take it back.

thats interesting how the system works, call it naivety if u wish im only 18

those chavs are irritating, they have flat screen tv's its not fair.

the amount im payin in NI jus 4 it 2 go 2 a chav <_<

We are an EU country as such EU citizens working in this country are entitied after a period of residence to be treated equally to citizens in the country of residence. The UK may be losing in this benefit but citizens of our country in Sweden for example are entitled to their benefits that are paid at a much higher rate than ours. That is the beauty of the system. You win some you loose some.
