The chairman is Allan Leighton who single handedly transformed Asda from virtually a couple of corner shops in Leeds into the 3rd biggest supermarket chain in the country, the guy knows business he is not some wet behind the ears 20 something Management Consultant, ok mail is different from food but the guy is a very good businessman so if he is getting this sort of money I bet he could get more than that elsewhere

The chief executive Adam Crozier is a bit of a tit but again he did manage to turn Saatchi and Saatchi into a global force

Royal Mail's monopoly is a matter for the government

Again, RETAIL, BUSINESS, ADVERTISING AGENCIES.... the PRIVATE sector, not the PUBLIC SERVICE sector.... Totally different animals mate.... would you have Alan Sugar run an NHS Trust or Transport for London...? I dont think so..... And the facts remain, some incredibly BAD decisions have been made by Leighton and Crozier because they simply do not understand that they are running pubic service, NOT a private business.....

We should all be concerned that this govt is hell bent on eventually Privatising OUR mail service.... <_< I dont trust a private concern to run the mail service, simple as... The Privacy and integrity of the Royal Mail is enshrined in Law because it IS a Public service... Royal Mail employees have to sign the Official Secrets Act.... Can a Private company absolutely guarantee the privacy and integrity of the mail...? I dont think it can.... Even the Americans understand the need to keep the mail service within the public sphere and therefore much more accountable to the public.....

I don't know how much Leighton gets but it's Crozier who get £1m. Not bad money for "a bit of a tit". I'd quite happily do his job for half the money. I'd probably be c**p at it but that just means I'd get a handsome pay off when they sack me.

Is it really trustworthy as it is e.g. I send a card with £20 in it to my mum through the post but it gets to her house the money's gone. There were cases like that right, so maybe private service would be better? The other day my mum sent me something first class and the package was practically torn up.

we've had cards go missing all the time when we used to put money in. As soon as we stopped doing it, the cards have all arrived since ^_^

Now we just don't bother and give the money to family when we see them

My mum and sister used to send parcels to my daughter for birthdays and Christmas. No more. The last three or four have been open and stuff missing. Letters constantly never turn up here either. The service is beyond c**p and an asolute joke. When my daughter was 4 (she's 12 now) my sister sent her a Disney video. The package had been opened and re-sealed and an apology label added. What was inside? A porno film with 3 gay men on it. I complained but all they said is two packages must have come open and the wrong video put back in ours. The guy was laughing and asked if there were kids in it. I said "no" so he seemed unperturbed. He even told me to watch it right through and make sure there were no children in it. Luckily we put it on before Rachel came home from school as I wondered why she'd sent a video with no label. I wrote to complain but never got a reply. The video went in the bin.

Exactly, that's pretty much what happened with the tit who came up with the "Consignia" idea... That sure went down well didn't it...?

That's just so wrong.

I would have kicked off big time if that was me.

It seems to me that all these problems that are cropping up are as a result of the changes that Royal Mail have been going through in the past decade or so... 10 or 12 years ago, cases like this and the one Crazy Chris brings up would be practically unheard of... The facts are that where once before Royal Mail actually vetted their staff pretty well, and required that people actually supply a personal reference from someone in a position of authority known to the person (ie, not a family member or past employer, but someone like a schoolteacher, minister, doctor, etc...) as well as the usual employment references, but with the proliferation of agency temps being hired in the past five years or so these cases of mail tampering are becoming more and more commonplace... We have Crozier and Leighton to thank for cutting corners and the dumbing down of the vetting and training procedures in Royal Mail.... <_<

Okay thanks. :)

Do they really deserve a raise then if our mail is getting treated like this?

It would be unfair to penalize the vast majority of mail workers who do work hard and who are honest.. I worked for Royal Mail for almost five years, and we never had problems with staff tampering with or stealing mail, most people working in my office had been there for quite a while and I think only two staff were actually sacked for misconduct in that time (not bad going for an office with well over a hundred staff I feel), and those were Royal Mail cadets, silly, clueless kids who thought the job was a skive... I think most of these problems are actually happening in London sorting and delivery offices tbh....
