May 19th

I really REALLY want to see this, it looks fantastic!

I'm really looking forward to watching this movie, its released on Friday
I am SO lookin' forward to watching this :o :cheer: absolutely loved the book

Tom Hanks is just the absolute wrong choice for the lead role though - shoulda gone to Clooney....

Could still be an interesting film though, even though I'm not a great fan of Ron Howard as a director....

Tom Hanks was good in Castaway and Terminal so I hope he turns out a good choice for the role.

Totally different films. He has no credibility in strong dramatic roles, "Road to Perdition" was spoiled totally by his presence, a better actor would've made it a much better film. Hanks is a lightweight actor, good for comedy or light drama roles, but "Da Vinci Code" requires someone with a bit more weight, Clooney is very strong at dramatic roles, a very serious, credible and fine actor who has proven himself time and time again (Goodnight and Good Luck, Syriana, Solaris, Out of Sight, etc, etc, etc...)

not sure, for me Clooney I just cant take seriously and this film needs a serious lead. For me Tom Hanks is perfect.

And just how is Tom Hanks a 'serious' lead....? Have you watched "Road To Perdition"?? Potentially great film, ruined by Hanks' lightweight attempts at serious acting....

i will need to watch the movie to comment further although I do believe that Hanks is believable in a serious role. I just dont see Clooney as serious enough to fill the role.

I see Hanks in the trailer and I think, 'this is believable'. A lot of Clooney's more well known movies are not serious enough. In my eyes he's type cast.

Hanks has been in a lot of successful serious films...

I have to absolutely agree with you there ...

Type-cast?? How? He's done a wide variety of roles and genres going from sci-fi to horror to action film to romantic comedy, to low-budget Indie, to political drama to complex thrillers.... And not serious??? His last two films were Syriana - an incredibly serious and complex film concerning the dirty dealings in the oil trade with sub-plots concerning terrorism, spying and the ethics of US foreign policy in the middle east (it dont come much more serious than that given the current political climate.....); and "Goodnight and Good Luck" - another incredibly serious film concerning the McCarthy era and the ethics of the freedom of the press to question state injusticies, a film he also directed and co-wrote as well as starring in. As well as this, he is one of the precious few Hollywood actors who aint afraid to stick his head above the parapet and speak out for things he believes in..

Not a serious actor? Rubbish...

its my view on him. Not in relation to his last movies but in relation to how I depict him as an actor. I see him more an Ocean's 11 funny guy than someone who can really take on such a huge role in this movie.

Maybe im wrong, thats why above I said I will have to wait to watch the movie on Friday to give further judgement :).

I've just started reading the book, I'm hoping I can put off the film until I've finished it

He did "Oceans 11" because Steve Soderbergh is his friend (he shows up in a lot of Soderbergh's films, you may have noticed..), he does a huge variety of roles, unlike Hanks who only ever seems to do the same type of thing, and when he deviates from it (as in "Road to Perdition" where he's required to be a tough gangster) he's just not credible. Don't forget that Clooney came to our attention in ER, a fairly serious and sober medical drama....

I think George clooney is a decent actor but comparing him to Tom hanks is redicilous IMO.

In most of Clooney's films his character is very similar and that's cause of the way he acts. I just don't think he would sit this type of role.
