November 10, 200717 yr I'm gonna buy the Leona's album, but I have yet to find a review thats said its good! . The only review I've seen so far is the Mirror - they liked it but still only gave it 3 stars. I heard some tracks from it today in HMV (just had to have a listen). Its ok - but really, that's all. They've certainly taken the best track as the first single. Should still do well though. Norma
November 10, 200717 yr I think she could do 500,000. I think we all underestimated her single. I guessed at 150,000 which I thought was very hopefull!!!. Imagine if someone had predicted over 200,000 for her single, we'd have all laughed in amusement at such a ridiculous figure ;)
November 10, 200717 yr even if leona does beat the spice girls i think at asome stage between next week and end of chritsmas the spice girls will at some stage get the number 1 album
November 11, 200717 yr I'm gonna buy the Leona's album, but I have yet to find a review thats said its good! . A collection of good songs well sung doesn't always make a good album - I think that's what many of the critics are saying. I think they mostly wanted a bit more variety in tempo. But these days does it really matter? Who actually listens to an album in full start to finish? The album as a "concept" doesn't exist in pop as we all iPod our way through life creating playlists to our own design. We can mix slow and mid tempo from an artist like Leona with up tempo disco electronica.
November 11, 200717 yr everyone seems to see this as the spice girls doing c**p. can't anyone see that this is probably not the case-Leona is just doing REALLY well like so many of us expected/wanted. if the spice girls peak at 2 with their greatest hits i'm still pretty sure it will be in the top 5 albums of the year. but then again, all spice girls fans care about is getting number 1 so they'll still be disappointed. November 11, 200717 yr ive hear some tracks for leona lewis albulm and its realy good it was worth the wait will sell over half a million copies in the first week
November 11, 200717 yr All i know is I'm getting the Spice Girls as a christmas present and I'm gonna be buying Leona's album tomorrow. I actually hope she can beat the debut artist sales of the Arctic Monkies as i think they are underated and c**p anyway. It would be good for a pop record to take it back for once
November 11, 200717 yr I'm gonna buy the Leona's album, but I have yet to find a review thats said its good! . It's been mixed really, 50/50 positive/negative. Here's a positive one: http://news.entertainment.msn.co.uk/200711...ums_R396919.htm

It would be good for a pop record to take it back for once Yes, wouldn't it be brilliant for yet another manufactured, reality TV artist to take away the success of an act that have done all the work themselves, written all of their tracks and created the most innovative piece of marketing in years, and all before they were out of their teens?!
November 11, 200717 yr Myspace is just as manufactured as X Factor these days so don't jump on your high horse
November 11, 200717 yr Myspace is just as manufactured as X Factor these days so don't jump on your high horse But they INVENTED it, they were there FIRST! They did it all themselves and weren't the latest in a long line of people for it to have been forced upon people by huge record companies and Simon Cowell. Leona is about 100 times more manufactured than Arctic Monkeys were when they came out. They were on an independant record label, never promoted on any mainstream show and the video was just a live performance. How can you even begin to compare the two?
November 11, 200717 yr The question is do you like Leona's music. If not why are you even in this thread?
November 11, 200717 yr I'm not fussed with Leona's music. I wouldn;t say I DID like her, I wouldn't say I DIDN'T. I can see she's talented, I just think she's completely overhyped by everyone and everyone at the moment. Especialy on here, you can't seem to go in any thread here without it being mentioned how amazing she is. I'm in the thread because it's in a CHART forum and for as long as I can remember I've taken an interest in the CHARTS. Is that OK? Oh, and I assume you didn't argue my point any further because you know I'm right?
November 11, 200717 yr I hate all this manufactured talk. Leona's been trying to get into the music industry for a while before XF came along, she wrote and recorded a demo album beforehand and she has also written on her upcoming album. She used XF as a platform to get into the industry, just like some other artists use MySpace but it doesn't mean she hasn't worked hard up to this.

Didn't highlight the especially on here cos i wasn't a member then and so i didn't know. And yeah, i agree to a certain point about myspace - but no way did they invent it. People were putting their own music on that site in the early days along with AM - they just got lucky - it could have happened to anyone. In fact it was myspace (or anything that was before it in a similar vein) that invented it, to be able to let everyday people put their own music on the internet - and is just a part product of the postmordern society we now live in. Everything is so pastiche now, that when something new comes along, people think its new but its not, its just another form

Everything is so pastiche now, that when something new comes along, people think its new but its not, its just another form If any act who'd done it previous had been as good as Arctic Monkeys they'd have done it. But they weren't and didn't. They came from nowhere and at a time when everyone thought illegal downloading was such a bad thing and ruining the music industry they still gave their music away to get noticed. Before Arctic Monkeys, only a few smaller bands were doing it. Now, everyone's doing it. The impact they had was massive. Granted, by the time their album was out they did have a lot of exposure but their first number one was purely down to them and was no way down to any kind of hype or promotion. The majority of people were predicting a Sugababes vs McFly battle for the top. On here, (or was probably CC then) about 95% of people said that and had never heard of them when they got their number one. Who hasn't heard of Leona now? Probably about the 5% that had heard of Arctic Monkeys.
November 11, 200717 yr Has she really though? I keep reading that she's been around for years but if she's as good as everyone says she is surely she would've made it without needing X-Factor? She clearly has - as she has made demos that have leaked which were done when she was young. I must stress here that Leona is by far not my favourite artist and probably never will be - but my personal taste in music is mainly pop, so i'm glad to see a pop artist do well
