December 26, 200718 yr There is another review of this on WOS by a man with another dig at D. Why would someone post this so long after the event, unless it was for that reason.
December 28, 200718 yr I ignore i, after all there have been numerous people play Billy, I find it amusing that some can still high light Darius out of all of them for comment, better to be hated than forgotten in my book -
December 29, 200718 yr obviously newsworthy, other wise he would have been forgotten, not still lodged in peoples brains making them feel the need to put him down vermently in case they had to admit they found him good in any way.
December 30, 200718 yr There will always be a minority who hate Darius enough for their own reasons to lash out with hurtful comments every time they see his name back in circulation. Perhaps because of long held prejudices or because they see him as a threat to someone they personally prefer. He's stepped up into the world of MT, grabbed 2 of the best leading man roles going and has generally been accepted by the critics as doing so very successfully. That rankles with many would-be purists who don't like "incomers" especially those like Darius with no formal stage training and the former seem to think they really can influence casting by a regular stream of damning posts on theatre sites against particular people or shows. Also, I know how I felt when I first met Darius and I remember SC said all his friends were in awe of him, so I wonder if some guys who feel that way twist it to convince themselves that it's Darius who thinks he's superior ...............something which we know could not be further than the truth. I wonder too if some people seeing the real Darius think he's too good to be true and so must be fake/cheesy. If general things like he's arrogant, naf, obnoxious, corny, cheesy, the worst..., and some swear words are all his critics conjure up to rage against him, then Darius is doing just fine. There's a plethora of forums and blogs which do very little else but vent spite against people in the public eye. The stuff on many of them is absolutely horrendous and possibly libellous and quite frankly IMHO should be removed virtually as soon as it's posted.
December 31, 200718 yr Author Even if they knew D, they'd still feel the same. Some media remarks didn't help. I really annoy him, it doesn't matter two hoots to either of us whether he likes me or not - I totally believe he has a great talent and deserves to be heared. After any disagreement, it's just back to normal. Arrogant, selfish or cocky wouldn't come around in that way. He has nothing to gain by being polite and considerate with me - the fact that he is, says a lot about the man.
February 3, 200818 yr It's great that many more people now appreciate that Darius is pretty good at MT and compliment him on it. However at a time when we're desperate for him to concentrate on his music and get the album finished, I'm a bit concerned all that appreciation, with interviewers going so far as to tell him directly that the West End needs him back might just eat into his determination to concentrate on the album and he'll consider leaving the door open for MT offers in 2008. What a soothsayer I'd make and I don't have a crystal ball! No hard feelings. I don't blame him at all. They just made him an offer he really really couldn't refuse.
February 3, 200818 yr Author He did say that, if he were offered something he really couldn't resist, he'd go for it. He also said, in the Q&A, that he'd prefer to do gigs before more MT. Well, he has 60 days to do it now - while rehearsing as well. He's still going ahead with the album but, I wouldn't be surprised if it went to early next year if they bring an original soundtrack out fot GWTW.
February 15, 200818 yr I've been watching the arrivals footage again, the part where the interviewer says to Darius "The West End needs you back." Darius doesn't give anything at all away, not even viewing it with hindsight.
February 15, 200818 yr He probably thought he was going way out on a limb just auditioning for someone like Sir Trevor Nunn. He has never lacked courage but I wonder who stiffened his resolve this time.
February 15, 200818 yr I still regret not getting to the 10th Anniversary show but I'm more hopeful I can fit in a GWTW date before I go away.
February 15, 200818 yr Author He wasn't on for long. I enjoyed seeing everyone but, the best feeling was when Darius did come on and commanded the stage. It's a rare talent.
