June 13, 200817 yr Author so why do radio's kind of snub them then rich B) same with all commerical pop-trance, it's not exclusive to Cascada -_- you don't hear Scooter, N-Force etc...on the radio either...even Basshunter was barely on the radio, certainly not on commerical radio they seem to think that it won't appeal to their audiences...despite the fact that these songs are often massive hits the only pop-trance song I ever hear on the radio is DJ Sammy's Heaven, but that was in a league of its own
June 14, 200817 yr Is it wrong that i love Cascada's versions of Just Like A Pill and Sk8er Boi. No coz i quite like them too :)
June 18, 200817 yr Im really getting in to it now, i really hope it doesnt do as baddly as What Do You Want From Me
June 18, 200817 yr Author well...they won't support anything else from this album if they come back with something amazing for a third album lead single, they might support that
June 18, 200817 yr Author  exactly...I wonder if they have some sort of quota on how many tracks from each genre they're allowed to play each week
June 18, 200817 yr  exactly...I wonder if they have some sort of quota on how many tracks from each genre they're allowed to play each week They most certainly do. They only add a dance song if a dance song is removed. Seeing as their only 5 proper dance songs in the playlist, that seems to be the quota each week for the genre. Indie-rock takes the largest stake of the playlist, so thats why every week there are many indie additions. It wasnt always like that, they seem to adapt when public tastes change, but that doesnt happen until its been very established that the genre they previously supported no longer generates hits.
June 18, 200817 yr Author Radio 1 are stupid...the tastes HAVE changed...nobody buys indie anymore, when will they realise this  why won't they get all this turd off the playlist it wouldn't hurt them to put Disco Lights on the playlist would it! Darren's heading for a top ten album for christ sake
June 18, 200817 yr I think something more drastic needs to happen for them to realise this, perhaps more flops. The Ting Tings will probably make them believe its still as popular as ever though so it'll be tough. 8 Years ago the playlist was filled with dance, 5 years ago R&B. But those genres actually had 6-8 songs in the top10 every week so it was justified. However, dance never dominated the playlist as much as indie the past 3 years, and its ironic since indie even during these last years never achieved the same popularity dance did back in the day.

I agree on all points Ting Tings, The Feeling, Scouting For Girls and Hoosiers, are skewing their perspective they are pop bands but Radio 1 probably perceive them as indie and are therefore assuming that indie is still a huge success... actual proper indie hasn't had a big hit in years and years...it's the same as the Britpop slump of 1997/1998, yet they wouldn't be seen dead putting all this copycat fake Britpop on the playlist in 1999/2000 so why are they putting all this awful noughties Brit indie on the playlist when it clearly peaked in 2004-2006 :(
June 18, 200817 yr Because for them only indie is cool atm. At the time around 1998 dance was seen as cool so they jumped on that. Around 2002/3 R&B was seen as a hot genre so they supported that. But now, there doesnt seem to be anything out there that sticks out for them, so they just stick with indie which is still the most credible genre (for them).
June 18, 200817 yr Author I think dance is definitely back on top form at the moment, I was losing patience with it in 2004/2005 now it's one of my favourite genres again, if not my favourite...so many good singles, but more surprisingly, so many great dance artist albums coming out...all hail AATW  14 of my top 50 midweek chart, just looking now, is dance...a year ago that would have been 7 out of 50 in 2005, it may have been even lower
June 18, 200817 yr Author tv channels seem to be more in tune with what's popular than radio stations are

My chart is more dominated by pop and R&B nowadays (and for a few years now), but it is picking up for dance thanks to European dance hits which are my favourites. The reason for this is because I like commercial dance tunes that actually have a melody and are radio friendly. That's what made dance so big in the late 90s and early 00s with acts like Fragma, Sash, Madison Avenue, Modjo, ATB, Wamdue Project, Ian Van Dahl, Vengaboys, Rui Da Silva, etc... Nowadays most euro hits stay in Europe but they seem to be crossing over the pond more frequently again.

June 18, 200817 yr Yeah, hopefully more labels will follow. Props to Ministry Of Sound for launching Hard2Beat and broadening their sound. AATW apparently have signed Kate Ryan's "Ella Elle L'a" which is good. Dont think it'll be a hit but its always some kind of support. R&B is great, but lately for many of the big artists its just pop. Hence why you probably like. Ne-Yo - Closer, Michelle Williams - We Break The Dawn, Rihanna - Disturbia, Chris Brown - Forever, etc... are pop songs imo. Whatever the genre, I do like this new sound. However, I love late 90s and early 00s R&B with acts like Destiny's Child, Kandi, Sisqo, Mya, etc. 2003 is probably the best year imo which produced some amazing classics, and its definitely the biggest year for the genre in the charts.
