Loads of pop artists take their clothes off, especially pop and rnb artists. Girls Aloud, Britney, Christina, Pussycat Dolls have ALL dressed very provocatively on more than one occasion. About every other urban/hip-hop/rap/dance video seems to have girls in it wearing not much. Taking clothes off is not a new way of selling records. Once again, people giving McFly stick for something others have been doing for a long time yet call them 'desperate'.

I don't like McFly, they have the odd good song but most is samey rubbish, I don't think they deserve to get more credit but they do deserve a hell of a lot less stick!

Thing is though, all those POP STARS you named are perfectly happy with their functions as Pop Stars, McFly seem to think they're somehow worthy of more "cred" or whatever, which I dont think they are worthy of... At the end of the day, McFly are as manufactured as PCD or GA (or indeed The Monkees to take an example from the past...), the fact that they are in denial of this is what the fundamental problem is. They seem to believe that they should have the respect afforded to, say, Radiohead, Editors, Morrissey, The Killers or Interpol, well, I say, come up with the tunes that can actually equal those acts, then we'll talk.....

When was the last time you saw Thom Yorke, Brandon Flowers or Moz getting their kits off at G.A.Y.....?

Excuse you, your lack of research is retarded.

The Sugababes sell out midsize venues. some of their new tour dates are already sold out. and the rest are as good as. <_<

ON the subject of song writing. Nobody notices the lack of input from GA in their songs. Xenomaina never get the credit they deserve. And my god they deserve a lot more credit than mcfly.

as is your reply D:

I wasn't actually attacking Sugababes. I was saying that although they have big album sales, they never really sell out huge arenas unlike GA, who have low album sales. This was to show that not every artist can have big sales and tours which the person I was talking to didn't seem to understand, and neither did they understand that just because McFly may not be able to have the best of both worlds, doesn't mean they are going to be dropped, and neither are sugababes/GA

im sorry but i totally disagree with most of yuu..i think Mcfly deserve it, at 22 years of age how many of you can sit there and say that you have acheived as much as Tom Fletcher with 10 number 1 singles two number one albums and sell out arenas tours every year...none of you!. they don't go around being arrogant they do as much as they can to help people like for charity they raised thousands maybe millions and built a school in uganda for young children because they wrote a song and all the proceeds went towards it.....they have a massive fan base all around the world and most people think there fans are just 14 year old girls who only like them for there sex appeal but not atall if you go to a gig you will see a mix of people there from like 8 or 9 to 40 years old male and female.... some of you are saying they are only staying at number one for 1 week but ok yeah but millions of people have to buy that single in the first place for that record to get number one .... people just use stereotypes all the time with Mcfly which isnt fair cause they are a pop/rock band and like Tom says if Oasis had written room on the third floor, it proberly would have been massive but no cause Mcfly did there just a stupid little boy band trying to make it big...Omg no its not like that atal  Mcfly are proper genuine guys if you go on youtube and watch any of there interviews you will see that... yeah they might get naked on stage once or twice give them a break they are only having fun like any other 20-22 year old would except they are *celebrities* [or what ever you would call them]...alot of you are saying it is to early for a greatest hits like $h!t is it and any way they didnt want to do it, it is there record contract that they have to do one and they thought why not now when the know there fans are 100% behind them...

sorry for the essay but i could argue with any one about Mcfly any where any time cause i think they are very talented :D

some of you are saying they are only staying at number one for 1 week but ok yeah but millions of people have to buy that single in the first place for that record to get number one

I think the fact you believe it takes several million sales for a single to get to number 1 shows your navity and removes the validity of your argument. To get to number one in the uk you can sell less than 100,000 copies, it can even be less than 50,000. I don't think many if any singles have totaled a million saled overall this year.

ok, so people all want to be mean about mcfly, but take a look at yourselves, are any of you famous or as talented as tom fletcher? no... i didn't think so.

i don't understand why people have to insult them, its up to the individual whether they like a band or not, and what is all this stereotyping them as a rock/pop/indie band? they are just mcfly, no one was made to be labelled.

i don't really like music like this, but even i can see that mcfly are really talented for their age, and yeah they are wanting to compare themselves with oasis and people but tom fletcher is much younger and i think what he means is that in years to come he is hoping for that! generally, i love going to gigs like good charlotte, madina lake, bands like that, but i went to see mcfly on 30th november and i must say that they were amazing! they have improved so much from the first time i saw them, when they were supporting busted, and anyone who can't see talent there must be blind or just plain stupid!

sorry for writing so much, but it really annoys me when people insult bands for no good reason.

ooh yeah and one final point, dougie wrote transylvania, not tom, so maybe he should get recognised for some of his lyrics... and he wrote ignorance, which yeah might not be a single, but mcfly fans will know the song because it was on the other side of one of their singles.

Oh yes, i'm sure they'd be dropped with their nation wide sellout arena tours, which are the most profitable part of releasing music

The labels makes no money from tours, that all goes in the artists pocket.

How do u know who we are? Anyone one of us could be a famous actor/singer/dancer or anything like that. You don't know any of us personally, so be careful before you make judgements. Oh and I've seen it stated a couple of weeks ago that people who work for the OCC float around on these boards

No one is insulting McFly just pointing out the arrogance of their statement which will gain them no more credit then the alrady have. I know they're successful but, c'mon, everyone must realise their songs are hardly 'classics'. And besides these days u don't need talent to get into thecharts and be successful. look at soulja boy.

I showed her this topic because i though it would be funny to see her reply, sorry Emma :P But I think she is entitled to have her own opinion, even though I can't stand them much myself  So whatever this OCC thing is you should be careful before you make judgements. I'm not just going to sit here and read what you say to my friend when you don't even know her yourself.

I do agree there actually! Look at 50 cent and Akon

Excuse me i have not made judgements about her but she has made judgements about us and OCC people are people that make chart rules an example i can think of was when Pop! and Phixx had their 2 track cd discarded from the chart because it was something like 40 seconds too long - this was when 2 track cds could be no longer than 10 minutes long.

I actually took your friends comments as an insult cos i'm training as an actor, going to drama school, and thats what i meant by my comment - because it was hurtful to read that things that presume i'm not talented or anything and why i said that no one on here knows me so why make judgements and i brought OCC into as an example that its not just everyday people that are on these boards

Thank u for backing my point up

Oh well then that is fair enough, I'm sure she didn't mean to offend anyone it's just because she was upset about what was being said, and when you are passionate about things you tend to over-react and regret what you said, and she was saying how she did regret putting that.

Thats ok, and i'm sorry for my reaction it just went from being an arguement about McFly to a personal attack and i reacted. Lets put an end it now

Yeah, it's ok don't worry about it, things like this happen and if it wasn't my friend i wouldn't have said anything, because I am not their greatest of fans. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i mean life would be boring if everyone thought the same, so all sorted ^_^

Hey, sorry if i offended anyone, it really wasn't my intention, i just read all the comments and got a bit mad because they are really talented and so many people are accusing them of not being!

and yeah i agree that they are not going to be classics, like in 10 years time people probably won't remember any of their songs, but at the minute they are just catchy nice little tunes, and people should just leave them to get on with it.

sorry again and yeah lets put an end to it

Well their label must be pretty happy with the income they're getting from all the other areas then, eh? :)

This thread is so petty, this forum seems to have a bias against them no matter what they do. I don't like them that much, but they sure as hell don't deserve half the c*ap some of you on here waste your time dishing out

I actually really enjoyed listening to their live performance of "It's All About You" that Jo Whiley played this morning.

Ok yeh maybe.... but they still sold the most singles that week so there must me thousands of people buying that single or was is just a coincidence that when ever Mcfly had a number one it was just because there was nothing else in the charts ..? i'm not gonna get in too an argument about it as every one is intitled to there own opinion

Usualy McFly release in a week where not much else new stuff is being released. However they tend to have massive drops in their second and third weeks of release, so don't so well out of the core fan base. Examples of this are Star girl went in straight at number 1 and fell to 9 the week after, and the single released after also went in straight at number 1 and fell to 20 in the second week and 39 in its third week. Which shows they don't have consistant sales. To be honnest there isnt much wrong with McFly's music, it just seams the band think they are better than they actualy are, and McFly are yet to release anything which shows them to be more than just another band like Busted.
