Posted December 9, 200717 yr IF [and I say IF hypothetically] 'Spirit' manages to sell more than Declinehouse's album this year then it seems safe to say that Leona will have the biggest selling single and album of 2007. I've just been wondering if that feat has ever been achieved before in a calendar year and if someone could shed some light on it?
December 9, 200717 yr From memory, the biggest year end singles and albums this century have been: 2006: Gnarls Barkley - Crazy & Snow Patrol - Eyes Open 2005: Shayne Ward - That's My Goal & James Blunt - Back To Bedlam 2004: Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas & Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters 2003: Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love & Dido - Life For Rent 2002: Will Young - Evergreen/Anything Is Possible & Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (or Robbie Williams - Escapology?) 2001: Shaggy - It Wasn't Me & Dido - No Angel 2000: Bob The Builder - Can We Fix it? & 1 - The Beatles The Spice Girls were close in 1996 with Wannabe and Spice, but the Fugees single Killing Me Softly just beat Wannabe. So, not that I remember.
December 9, 200717 yr Robson & Jerome did it in 1995. And Meatloaf two years before in 1993. What odd company she will be in if she does that double.

December 9, 200717 yr Thanks Matt! I'm guessing it was probably Coldplay in 2002? I wasn't 100% sure, but I think it was them.
December 9, 200717 yr 2002: Will Young - Evergreen/Anything Is Possible & Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (or Robbie Williams - Escapology?) Thanks Matt! I'm guessing it was probably Coldplay in 2002? Can't have been that year because Will was definitely the biggest single but the album was 20ish for the year.
December 9, 200717 yr Oh I remember Tim. Hello again! :D Hello everyone - I remember you, Matt and Graham too.
December 10, 200717 yr Don't mean to sound picky - but wasn't Amarillo No.1 of the year in 2005? Not Shayne Ward? Sorry if I sound like I'm being funny, I don't mean too.
December 10, 200717 yr I can answer this. It was last done in 1993 by Meat Loaf, I'd Do Anything For Love and parent album Bat Out Of Hell 2.
December 10, 200717 yr Don't mean to sound picky - but wasn't Amarillo No.1 of the year in 2005? Not Shayne Ward? Sorry if I sound like I'm being funny, I don't mean too. Yep it was. Did the Beatles never manage to have the biggest selling single and album some time in the mid 60s? I'd have thought they'd have managed it more than once.

Yes think they did, two or three times and maybe Abba did it in the 70's. Edited December 10, 200717 yr by Crazy Chris
December 10, 200717 yr Yes think they did, two or three times and maybe Abba did it in the 70's. Hmm I don't think Abba ever had a biggest selling single in a year...I seem to recall they were always beaten by some massive song (Bohemian Rhapsody, You're The One That I Want, Don't You Want Me etc.) Edited December 10, 200717 yr by Peter30
