Posted December 19, 200717 yr Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is being questioned about an alleged rape at a hotel in Manchester city centre, the BBC has learned. Police were called to the Great John Street Hotel early on Tuesday after reports a woman, 26, had been raped. Greater Manchester Police have said a man was arrested after going to a police station on Tuesday evening. Mr Evans, 19, has played for Northern Ireland eight times but does not have a regular place in the United first team. The hotel was hosting a private party attended on Tuesday by members of the Manchester United squad and other guests. Manchester United has declined to comment. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the hotel on Great John Street, in the Castlefield area of the city, at about 0415 GMT on Tuesday. On Tuesday night, a GMP spokesman said: "A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape this evening after presenting himself to police. "He remains in custody for questioning." The hotel, a boutique hotel converted from a Victorian schoolhouse, was closed in the early part of Tuesday, but has since reopened. It opened two years ago with 30 duplex rooms and suites. A hotel spokeswoman said they were helping the police with the investigation. Evans made his first appearance for United in September after spending part of last season on loan to Sunderland. from bbc news Humm this isnt the first time a player has been acused of rape, and i am sure because of his fame even if he has done it, he won't be found guilty. However even if he wasnt famous because of the type of crime even if he did do it he probably wouldnt be found guilty.

December 19, 200717 yr Well if he plays between now and Feb he'll get a torrid time from opposing fans. He's as good as finished in football methinks.

December 19, 200717 yr He's as good as finished in football methinks. Van Persie, Kluivert and them Leicester City players carried on their careers unharmed after rape allegations so don't see why it should be any difference in his case if he is not charged or is found not guilty
December 19, 200717 yr Van Persie, Kluivert and them Leicester City players carried on their careers unharmed after rape allegations so don't see why it should be any difference in his case if he is not charged or is found not guilty Didn't Ronaldo have one aswell last year?
December 20, 200717 yr Van Persie, Kluivert and them Leicester City players carried on their careers unharmed after rape allegations so don't see why it should be any difference in his case if he is not charged or is found not guilty Weren't a few Newcastle players accused of raping someone when they were staying in London for a game a few years back?
December 21, 200717 yr In the light of fresh allegations this morning, that at this 'party', 6 other Man United players were involved in a roasting orgy session... the question now has to be asked - WHO organised this party? Isn't a Christmas party meant to be light-hearted, good-natured fun? Who arranged that this party happened without any wives or girlfriends invited? And, more pertinently, who on earth allowed up to 100 girls from all over the country access to the ticket-only party? Far from footballers just being remote sportsmen - they are role models for millions of kids, idolised across the world. They get paid obscene amounts, very often, in the case of many of the England players, without coming up with the goods. I think this latest revolting sleaze scandal should be dealt with extremely harshly by the powers that be. OK, I know there are quasi-hookers the length and breadth of the land who make their money on their backs with idiots like these football players - BUT - a firm, final stand MUST be taken now. The behaviour of these players sends an extremely dangerous message to impressionable young kids everywhere. I think ALL the players involved should have their contracts with the club terminated immediately. Surely by now, the Man U players especially should know the damage sleaze like this does to their reputations (Ferdinand, Rooney to name but two). Their sacking would send shockwaves through the world of football - and so it should. Furthermore, Man U should be excluded from any big name championships from here on in - this will send a bold, brutal message to all other clubs, however big or small, that disgusting behaviour like this will NOT be tolerated. Ever. A footballers' career doesn't only involve his good conduct on the pitch these days. These revelations do seem to add weight to the theory that kids are either sporty or academic - it appears that the majority of footballers we have here now are overpaid and under-educated. Whether these guys are guilty or not (and there's rather too many impartial witnesses who've given sworn statements to doubt the claims) - how stupid can they be to allow themselves to be put in this position yet again? And, more to the point, how stupid are the club bosses in allowing this wholly inappropriate party to have gone ahead with the girls but no wives/girlfriends present?

No offence but that is ridiculous If any player is found guilty and convicted by a court I will be the first to condemn him but until then this is just pure speculation and the innocent until proven guilty thing applies Footballers are not there to be role models they are there to be professional doing a job and getting well paid for it, if people choose to make them role models then that is the problem of the one who worships these guys not the guys themselves Should actors who drive drunk be sacked by studios and never work in Hollywood again ? should any singer that has ever taken a drug be banned from making records ? should anyone in the entertainment industry who snorts cocaine be sacked ? No, it is their PRIVATE lives, so long as footballers are doing their professional jobs well then that is all that matters, they are not vicars mate you can't expect highly paid largely working class males to just sit by a fire in the evening reading Readers Digest, they are entitled to a private life, sacking a footballer for something in their private life is absurd unless they are convicted of a serious criminal offence If any player here is convicted by the courts then thats different but here is pure speculation Edited December 21, 200717 yr by Vic Vega
December 21, 200717 yr No offence but that is ridiculous the alleged rape of one girl and the 'roasting' of another by six foot ball players is far from ridiculous in my book, I'm afraid. this is just pure speculation well, not really, it isn't, no - today they have announced that many people at the hotel and the party have made sworn statements to police about the abhorrent way these players behaved that night. Far from being idle tabloid speculation - these are pretty hefty, substantial accusations. Footballers are not there to be role models they are there to be professional doing a job and getting well paid for it yes, they are. Whether you like it or not - as I said before, a footballer's career these days doesn't just revolve around the pitch (Sports Personality of the Year anyone?). These people are supposedly 'sporting heroes'. They are charity figureheads, they tour schools, they are THE public face of British football - and in anyone's book - their ghastly behaviour is sickening. Off and sometimes on the pitch. To say they are only footballers ON the pitch is utterly ludicrous. And when they're getting well paid and miserably failing to do their job.... hmm.... Should actors who drive drunk be sacked by studios and never work in Hollywood again ? should any singer that has ever taken a drug be banned from making records ? should anyone in the entertainment industry who snorts cocaine be sacked ? No, it is their PRIVATE lives, so long as footballers are doing their professional jobs well then that is all that matters, they are not vicars mate you can't expect highly paid largely working class males to just sit by a fire in the evening reading Mel Gibson now writes, directs and stars in his OWN movies - he's hardly hot Hollywood property after his drunkeness and racism was revealed. To try to make an analogy with rock stars taking drugs is crazy - rock stars have ALWAYS taken drugs..... a sporting personality is a whole different arena. And as I stated earlier, too.... these footballers are NOT doing well in their professional lives. They can blame managers all they like - is it the manager who plays cruddy football 90 minutes a week whilst getting paid up to half a million pounds a week? Shouldn't the blame for these appalling performances finally be laid at these players' feet who, it appears, far prefer chasing prostitutes, attending the opening of an envelope and drinking themselves stupid than doing what they're grossly overpaid for? And far from expecting these silly lads to stay at home.... I find that a shocking statement - are you condoning these many roasting incidents? Are you condoning rape? Are you condoning loutish, drunken, aggressive behaviour - just because, as you put it, these lads are highly paid and working class? I say it again - each and every lousy one of these players should be rounded up and given a very high profile sacking - there is no place in a supposed 'gentleman's sport' like football for these animals - and Manchester United, for even considering holding this party - should be immediately excluded from ALL competition. Maybe this will be the cold, hard message that will finally get through these players' thick skulls that women are not there simply to be abused and molested, however cheap and available they make themselves. December 21, 200717 yr And far from expecting these silly lads to stay at home.... I find that a shocking statement - are you condoning these many roasting incidents? Are you condoning rape? Are you condoning loutish, drunken, aggressive behaviour - just because, as you put it, these lads are highly paid and working class? There is still no evidence that a rape even took place, that is a matter for the courts and a jury based on the available evidence, this might not even ever come to court so I think it is outrageous that this guy was even named, like I said if he is charged tried and convicted of rape I will call for his castration as rape is a vile offence but at the moment he has not even been charged with any offence so in the eyes of the law he is not a rapist at this point He should be entitled to privacy and not being named until such time as he is charged and convicted, now this guy has a stigma attached to him for the rest of his life and will get all sorts of abuse from the terraces when there is a good chance he might be guilty of jack $h!t I do not condone the things you listed above but I am realistic enough to know that every Friday and Saturday night all over the country working class chav males are roasting, committing drunken and loutish acts and footballers are essentially chavs with a nice bank balance so to me it goes with the territory, anyone that has a footballer as a role model is an idiot in the first place, by all means admire a footballer and respect his skill and have his name on the back of a shirt but anyone that has a footballer as a role model has issues. No one in the private sector loses their jobs for drunken behaviour on a Saturday night so I don't see why footballers should.
December 21, 200717 yr Didn't Ronaldo have one aswell last year? Yes, he did in 2005 but charges were quickly dropped. I think Ronaldo wasn't at the party because he was at the FIFA World Player Gala. It reminds me of that Footballers Wives episode where they have an orgy in Spain and one girl gets raped and then she disguises herself to find who did it. Let's be honest, a no wives/girlfriend party with 100 girls, plenty of booze and such, it was recipe for promiscuity and mess from the word go. Man U shouldn't condone with it. December 21, 200717 yr small update, he has been bailed untill the 23rd of febuary, when something might happen. why do police work so slow, people seam to get bail for ages. You think that's slow... Ahh you have no idea how police can be SLOW... One buissnes man raped this basketball player. she came all the eay from USA to play in Croatia. That was 2 years ago, aand a month ago the case came to court. So...
December 21, 200717 yr small update, he has been bailed untill the 23rd of febuary, when something might happen. why do police work so slow, people seam to get bail for ages. Look at the thread (in Perspectives /World News) about the Omagh bombing verdict to see what happens when the police try to cut corners. The police cannot charge anyone until they have sufficient evidence to do so which is just as it should be. Edited December 21, 200717 yr by Suedehead2

I have to say I am in complete agreement with both of Russ' posts. The players put themselves in this position, and frankly I have absolutelty no sympathy for them.. They CHOSE to "bar" their wives and girlfriends from the party, they CHOSE to invited over 100 random girls from all over the country to attend.. Seems to me that this was just an excuse for some drunken orgy away from the girlfriends and family.. And the facts are, that very young kids DO look up to these individuals in a way that they wouldn't to a typical rock star.. An adolescent may look up to a rock star or an actor, but very young, impressionable kids tend to look more to footballing personalities.. I'm frankly very suspicious of the way this party was organised, and I think it needs to be seriously investigated and scrutinised... Like it or not, Manchester United is a family brand name, they do have a reputation to uphold, this drunken, sex mad, orgy session does them no favours at all... They are a fukkin' disgrace....

Kids look up to players on the pitch but surely no one with even a double digit IQ would look up to them off the pitch ? When I was a kid I pretended in the park when I had a ball that I was Glenn Hoddle and would try doing all the fancy tricks but I idolised Hoddle the PLAYER not Hoddle the man and that is the way it should be I see no real problem with the event itself, jeez this sorta thing happens at the end of sales conferences all the time, if this had been postmen or salesmen having this sorta party no one would have given a damn so I dont understand why there is this sorta fuss about footballers they are just men once they have their Utd strip off I am not referring to the rape ALLEGATION in what I am saying above but the party itself, footballers are there to score goals and win trophies they are not there to be pillars of morality and family values, if we are going to kick out every footballer who acts like any other young lad up and down the country on a Saturday night we might as well just have a penalty shootout every week between the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of York Russ has admitted taking cocaine in his youth, you used to take E's when you were a young man why is it any different if footballers engage in a bit of partying and hi jinks ?

December 23, 200717 yr The big story in the NOTW this morning is about Micah Richards being involved in a "roasting" session with a girl and his mate, should he be sacked too Russ ? Who fukkin cares lol I mean what is the big deal ? the girl was a willing participant there was no struggle no screaming she wasnt being forced to do anything so why is this such a big deal that it is front page news ? Millions of middle class and even upper class people are involved in threesomes, wife swapping, swinging and so on so I dont see how the hell it is a big deal when a footballer is involved in a "roasting" with a willing participant, Richards was merely doing what millions all over the country do yet according to you he should be sacked ? :manson:
