I fail to see what Musharraf gains out of this though

Sure a popular rival is out of the frame but as a result of this yesterday it is pretty safe to say that Musharraf won't be dying peacefully in his sleep of old age

You could probably say the same thing about Putin though mate, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest that he's been involved in several high profile assassinations and attempted assassinations.... People like him want to hold onto power no matter what, Musharraf will probably impose martial law again, postpone the elections again (indefinitely this time). Benazir Bhutto being "removed" definitely plays in his favour, he now has no serious rivals to take him on in an election.. You talk as if this is the first time that sh"t like this has happened in Pakistan, wasn't her husband (or was it father...?) also assassinated by those in power...?

Her father was hanged by Zia who took power in a coup (sound familiar at all?). Her brothers were also murdered.

I agree with your answer to Craig's question. This will give Musharraf an excuse to reimpose a state of emergency and postpone the election. A short delay may be the right thing to do but I can see Musharraf postponing it indefinitely.

terrible news.

I cannot believe it, really - what do you say to that. She actually knew what she was doing in regards to the current state of Pakistan, it's all such ignorance. Surely she would have known this was coming, they have already tried before. You would have thought she would have extremely intense and large amounts of security - especially at an event like this. It's unbelievable. It's as if she knew it was going to happen, and she had accepted it. I get the feeling to her, her death is a bigger statement than anything she has done before.

How tragic though, her father, her two brothers... now her.

Somehow I rather doubt she "martyred" herself (if this is indeed what you are implying)... The facts are Musharraf had the most to lose by her staying alive, she would've in all likelihood kicked his sorry arse out of office in an election. This is not to say that I particularly liked her policies of merely being another one of Bush's puppets... I cant very well slag off Blair and Brown for ass-licking to Bush and not criticise Bhutto for basically the same thing....

The only mistake she did, was pop her head out of the sun roof, but if she didn't, the bomb would have killed her.

I've just been listening to a statement from the Pakistan Government Interior Minister.

Apparently-

1) She wasn't shot or hit by shrapnel. She was killed when she hit her head on the sunroof...

2) There was no post-mortem as her husband forbade one from being carried out...

Oh well, that clears everything up then.......

But wait! Maybe they'll find some clues in the road where it happened......

Well, they may have done if the fire brigade hadn't been busy hosing everything down soon after the bomb went off....

Her spokesman says the Government sunroof story is 'a pack of lies'.

Oh dear. We'll be hunting for a grassy knoll before much longer.

Without offending/annoying some; but who exactly is she?

I know she's an ex-prime minister, but why will their be a Civil War because of her death?

Oh ha ha ha ha ha

Edit: Not to do with the topic itself... Anyone who's read the current thread in Reality TV approaching 100 replies will get it.

It's blaintly obvious you only say these type of stuff to WIND people up.

Oh and surprise surprise, 80% of the British Media have already jumped onto the al-Qa'ida waggon.

Jeez! I'll just research for myself

The various conflicting stories are all a bit suspicious.

We've got the government claiming she hit her head on the sun roof, other claims of shrapnel, whilst eye-witnesses are saying she was definitely shot.

On point two, I wouldn't read too much into that mate, she was a muslim, autopsies are against her religion, it is an article of her faith to be buried within 24 hours.. So, the seeming haste is more likely to be in accordance with her own wishes rather than it being summat sinister....

Point one is quite interesting though, as is your subsequent post.....

Jeez! I'll just research for myself

Yeah, maybe you should mate, then come back with an informed opinion... This is the one forum where pointless remarks and spamming is NOT welcome and will be met with pretty severe feedback.... Do your homework before you post please.....

hmmmmm the government claims about Bhutto dying through banging her head on a sunroof is suspicious

That cover up and spin makes me more inclined to believe that there was involvement in her death from very high places although I still doubt Musharraf himself was involved even if he wouldn't shed any tears at her death

The fact the government are lying about her death sounds to me that they have something to hide
