Ah, what an excellent year. D:Ream spent their final week at #1 with the anthem Things Can Only Get Better which sold 60,000 copies in it's final week at #1 before being replaced by Mariah Carey who debuted at #1 the week after with Without You selling 115,000 copies. All in all, what an excellent top 10: D:Ream, Toni, Enigma, Aretha, Wendy Moten and Deep Forest. Too bad there's some right crud ruining that top 10!

I loved Depeche Mode's 'In Your Room'...but my fave on the chart is Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby - gorgeous song.
lol.. now you see why i rarely post a chart from the 90's myself..... theres not 1 track in there that i give a jot about! to me its just a nothing, no good tracks, no ok tracks, just a morass of forgettable music.

Mostly $h!t - I like The Orb, Elastica, Therapy?, Cud, Slo Moshun, Boo Radleys, Pavement, Inspiral Carpets and Thomas Dolby (why was this re-released?)

There were some really good bands around at that time but most of them didn't seem to have stuff out.

I know & like:

05 - 02 - 02 - Toni Braxton - BREATHE AGAIN

02 - 09 - 11 - Red Hot Chili Peppers - GIVE IT AWAY

04 - 06 - 15 - Tori Amos - CORNFLAKE GIRL

02 - 19 - 18 - Orb - PERPETUAL DAWN

1 - NEW - 20 - Elastica - LINE UP

02 - 37 - 24 - Gin Blossoms - HEY JEALOUSY

11 - 15 - 25 - East 17 - IT'S ALRIGHT

12 - 26 - 34 - Bee Gees - FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

1 - NEW - 36 - Manic Street Preachers - LIFE BECOMING A LANDSLIDE

02 - 24 - 38 - Charlatans - CAN'T GET OUT OF BED

1 - NEW - 48 - Boo Radleys - BARNEY (... AND ME)

1 - NEW - 52 - Pavement - CUT YOUR HAIR

09 - 42 - 53 - Take That - BABE

04 - 28 - 56 - Depeche Mode - IN YOUR ROOM

15 - 59 - 58 - Mariah Carey - HERO

04 - 35 - 59 - Inspiral Carpets - SATURN 5

The fact that I like just one song out of the Top10 says it all really. A very poor chart IMHO.

Typical mid 90s chart - mainly rubbish in the Top 30 with some decent stuff lower down

02 - 09 - 11 - Red Hot Chili Peppers - GIVE IT AWAY

02 - 19 - 18 - Orb - PERPETUAL DAWN

1 - NEW - 20 - Elastica - LINE UP

03 - 21 - 32 - Therapy? - NOWHERE

02 - 24 - 38 - Charlatans - CAN'T GET OUT OF BED

1 - NEW - 52 - Pavement - CUT YOUR HAIR

04 - 28 - 56 - Depeche Mode - IN YOUR ROOM

04 - 47 - 62 - Soul Asylum - BLACK GOLD

04 - 49 - 75 - Thomas Dolby - HYPERACTIVE!

1993 and 1994 were probably the least indentifiable years of the 1990s. No particular sound was most prominent, which is good in some ways because - basically - anything stood a chance of being a hit. Deep Forest? I remember that, very very random. And Slo Moshun is an absolute anthem!

Most of the stuff in the higher end of this chart is relatively rubbish! D: Ream were really yucky mid-90s dance pop and that truly awful song by Sting and co is just DIRE!!!

oh i dunno... ragga was popular...

But not the same extent as, say, rave in 91/92, britpop in 95 (yes I know britpop is regarded as a dirty word)...

Oh rave had more top 10 hits in 91 / 92 than ragga did in 93 / 94.

The Prodigy, Altern 8, SL2, Shut Up and Dance, Smart E's, Urban Hype, Liquid, Kicks Like a Mule all hit big amongst many others.

really?...

id go and count but cant be arsed!

Me neither, I only listed those off the top of my head there.

The reggae / ragga hits of 93 / 94 - all I can think of is Shaggy, Big Mountain, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Pato Banton, Bitty McClean and Inner Circle.

maybe they were bigger on airplay then actual chart position.... i dunno, i wasnt interested in modern music in them days as there wasnt much to interest me until the britpop explosion brought 'mod' back :)

my fav at that time was the occassional dance track... prodigy, jam n spoon, felix, utah saints...

Yep, I was mostly into indie that was tickling the charts occasionally like Therapy?, Carter USM, Frank & Walters, Tindersticks, Radiohead, Kingmaker, Elastica, S*M*A*S*H and These Animal Men.
