Chart Commentary

New No.1 this week for Kylie Minogue, with her new infectious single ‘Wow’ taken from her tenth studio album ‘X’. Duffy moves up a place to No.2 with ‘Mercy’ while Goldfrapp slip from No.1 to No.3 with ‘A&E’. We Are Scientists climbs inside the top 10 at No.7 with their brand new single ‘After Hours’ taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘Brain Thrust Mastery’, the track has got hit written all over it. New band Salford’s Ting Tings move inside the top 10 at No.8 with ‘Great DJ’ stakes an almighty claim to be the year’s first lo-fi dancefloor smash, one band to watch out for in the coming year of 2008 comprising of singer Katie White and drummer Jules De Martino.

New York disco types Hercules and Love Affair know a lot of people, if this first single ‘Blind’ is anything to go by, it screams to be a hit accompanied by Antony Hegarty on vocals inside the top 10 at No.9. Welsh singer Duffy makes another return at the foot of the top 10 at No.10 with ‘Rockferry’ which also features on her debut studio album ‘Rockferry’. Written and produced in collaboration with Bernard Butler, the album is a stunning showcase for her voice, which brings to mind such great singers as Dusty Springfield, Lulu and Sandie Shaw.

The highest new entry of 6 comes from Panic! At The Disco at No.17, with their new single ‘Nine In The Afternoon’, taken from their forthcoming new studio album ‘Pretty Odd’. Editors, Futureheads, MGMT, Janet Jackson and Alphabeat make up the reminder of the new entries in this week’s Top 40 Chart.
