Amy I the only person that thinks her album has sold too many for 'Better In Time' to be a certain #1?

Perhaps a better question would be either : Do you *want* it to be #1? / Does it *deserve* to be #1 on merit?

Although both songs are excellent choices and personal favourites of mine from the album, I cant see this getting to no1 and repeating the success of bleeding love due to massive album sales.

Neither track is up to much imo but performances on DOI the night before the physical release should propel it to number 1. All Leona's singles have been promoted almost entirely on the back of tv shows with huge audiences & the pattern is being replicated abroad. Just shows that Cowell/Davies money can buy anything.

That's completely incorrect.

BL has spent 5 weeks at number 1 in Australia and she has yet to do a single performance of the song over there. Likewise, its been number 1 in a whole host of other countries that have had no performance of the song. The quality of the song and the vocal is what is making people buy it.

Further, she may be on a high-profile TV show the day of release but she wouldn't have got on there if she wasn't a big name. And being on a TV show doesn't necessarily mean that a song will get to number 1 - for example, Shayne Ward promoted his new material on the X Factor and failed to hit the top spot.

First off - i'm not disagreeing with any of the things you've said in principle.

However, i'm personally glad that Simon Cowell discovered Leona on the X-Factor. She had already recorded 2 albums prior to the X-Factor which would never have seen the light of day and she would definitely not have the success that I think her talent deserves had it not been for the X-Factor. I don't see why people harp on about the singles being promoted on the back of TV shows, everyone does it - it's called promotion. Who cares if it's strategically (as a good release should be) aired and aimed at the public right before the release? That's what a good record company does, regardless of whether they're a reality TV star or not. I don't see a single thing wrong with it and pray to God she has a long and successful career that doesn't just fizzle out after the Spirit project. She has an amazing talent that is very rare nowadays in my opinion (I can't think of a recent artist that has anywhere near the vocal ability that Leona does) and I hope that the British public recognise talent when it's staring them in the face and buy her material.

I do watch the X-Factor etc. but very rarely is an artist discovered that I would name among my favourite artists and usually I like one or two singles but that's it but never really become a "die-hard fan". Infact I think Leona is the first reality TV winner that I can honestly say that even if she sang the phone book I would buy it because I think her voice and talent is incredible.

I expect tonnes of abuse for this post but meh whatever, i'm not too fussed. My opinion is stated above and people can bang on about reality TV or Simon Cowell or SonyBMG all they like but it won't change my opinion that Leona is phenomenal.

Word to yo momma.

Peace out.

I second that. Wow, what a perfect speech.

Dare I mention Headlines!

Seriously - I don't like Leona's style of singing (but I can't stand Celine, Whitney or Mariah either - and I am happy to say that I will never blight my record collection with contributions from them). Having said that - there is no denying she has a cracking voice and for people who do like this style of singing - she is as near to perfection as you will get.

And I for one can't knock someone for being on a TV show for promotion - especially DOI - as Take That were on it last year!

Aww, still bitter nobody seems to like Janet Jackson and she's flopping? :P

You won't get no abuse from me Kelly, because I agree with most of what you say, up to a point that is and it's this,

I hope that the British public recognise talent when it's staring them in the face and buy her material.
If I liked her voice and her material I'd buy it, but I like neither and she does nothing for me so I wont, regardless of how talented or pretty she may be, it doesn't work that way.

Glad to hear dear. :P

Well yeah I thought the "if she's to your taste" bit goes without saying. Like I say for every artist that I think is terrible there will be a legion of fans that do like them. I just think some people are easier to like than others because their talent is more obvious, for example people went off Rachel Stevens (don't get me wrong I love Rachel) and I can't particularly blame them because she isn't really an artist that you watch a performance and think "Wow, there's talent!" whereas I don't think you necessarily need to be into Leona's style of music to appreciate her ability. Erm like Pavarotti for example, I detest opera but I could watch any of his performances and be amazed by his ability to perform despite disliking what he was actually singing. You know what I mean? ;) It's quite difficult to verbalise I must say. :(

Please back up your arguement with a little more than an ill-informed opinion please. BuzzJack is meant to be about healthy discussion afterall.

Something made me laugh today. I was reading through something, and there two different articals, one about Shayne Ward performing on a show, and one about Leona's upcomming single release. And for Leona, it was something "Superstar Leona Lewis will release.."etc. and for Shayne it said "X-Factor winner Shayne Ward will be performing..."etc.

It just shows that with one single, Leona's came a long way.

Yeah I know what you mean, I think Shayne (despite winning a year earlier) still has a much bigger "X-Factor" sign on his forehead than Leona does and unfortunately I think will forever will be branded as an X-Factor winner. Whereas I think Leona will join the Girls Aloud and Will Young category and shake that label by the time her second album comes around. ^_^

Leona is the Reality TV Winner where if you like her you GENERALLY like her! And not just buy her music coz you think shes pretty or beautiful or whatever! She will actually sell records on the back of her voice and the songs that are given to her! Which are brilliant! 'Spirit' has at least 3 more singles from it! IMO!

And i agree She will join Girls Aloud and Will Young (If you like lol) where she will shake off the 'Reality TV Winner' by the time her next album comes out!

Plus shes the only act to come from a reality show from over here that has actually been a global success! So far! and she will get bigger and bigger!

Oh and just coz Bleeding Love came out the same time as the Xfactor did doesnt make it a single not worthy of the Number 1 position! You wont find a christmas single in the middle of the summer would you?? Its about timing and trying to get the right programmes for your target audience! And seeing as she came from X Factor it worked! But you cant say the same about Shayne Ward now can you! Coz they did the same thing with him and he only reached number 6 with Breathless!

She will be n. 1 for sure . She's now the most popular singer in the world: n. 1 in 10 and more countries w.w. .

Actually #1 in at least 22 countries.

I put this down as top3.

I love her to pieces but I think she has sold too many albums for any more singles to get to #1.

I hope she does get the #1 though and break Gerry Hallywells record of 4 straight #1's in succession in the long term.

( ^ WTG Kelly, you took the words out of my mouth).

Think she'll get #4 - as has been said she's sold far too many albums to make subsequent singles obvious number 1s.
