GORDON Brown is set to rake in £4.5billion in stealth taxes on the back of soaring oil costs that are causing misery for millions of motorists.

In the past four months alone the Government has made a massive £1billion as oil prices rocket, reaching yesterday’s record high of $102 (£51) a barrel.

And with analysts predicting that the price will reach $120 (£60) a barrel within months, motorists will be left facing crippling costs at a time when household finances are being squeezed ever tighter.

Soaring bills for gas, electricity, food, water and council tax have already left millions of families struggling to make ends meet.

Britain’s drivers are the most taxed in Europe, paying a massive 65.2p in tax for every £1 spent at the petrol pump – at least 23p more than any other European nation.

Are you sick of spiraling petrol costs?

Are you struggling to make ends meet?

Have you had enough of Labour's stealth taxes?

I can’t see why Brown will cut fuel duty when its easy money for him to collect and waste on his pet projects.

Yes it is a rip off

It is outrageous that we have to pay like double in tax compared with other nations

It is a sad state of affairs where it is actually cheaper for a haulier to take a lorry on a ferry to France and fill it up with petrol (uncluding the ferry fare) than it is for him to take his lorry to the local BP station

If it makes people think about how often they use the car then I think it's a good thing. There are so many wasted journeys when it wouldn't be any trouble to walk or take a bus.
It's a total rip off. And we're daft enough as a nation to accept it. You'd never guess we were an oil producing country.

It is so easy for people to say take the bus, take the train or walk but it is easier said than done. Despite being a comuter village on the mainline from Norwich/Ipswich to London we have one train stop in my village an hour. The buses are the same one an hour in each direction and after 5pm and all day sunday they are every 2hours. So it proves difficult to actualy get anywhere. Walking isn't an option as the nearest town worth going to is 13miles in either direction. Also the buses and trains are ridiculously expensive for a below par service which lacks the ability to run to it's time table.

total rip!!!

thats 1 of the two reason's i can't afford a car in the first place,

i have 2 rely on slow noisy public transport 2 get me to work. a 25minute journey turns into an hour and 15minutes.

There are perfectly good reason's labour hasn't been able 2 tax us out of our car's

Ah, but if more people complained then more could and should be laid on. Since everyone says "I drive because the public transport is no use" that's one of the reasons it is no use. Besides, in your case I'd say driving is warranted - I'm talking about people who live 5 minutes walk from the shops yet still drive there.

I take the bus to work, use the train to vist home. But I wouldn't if I passed my test, I have a car and I use it. I would stick to public transport if it was better but its not, it takes 3hours 30 minutes to get home to see my family but if I was driving it would on take two and in my car I'd get a seat.

Oh and also the bus is so late that I can walk for 30 minutes and meet it at one of the next bus stops and even then I'm waiting a further 5 minutes.
