December 9, 200915 yr Author Thank You :) Sum 41 were on Now 51, so they could make it. It's a great 00s rock anthem. Dido didn't make any now album (apart from 49) so this would be a better time then any to include her. I think the "Angels With Dirty Faces" era was a lot better than any of the Sugababes other attempts, plus "Freak Like Me" was their first UK number 1. I can't really defend myself for The Kooks & Junior Senior  In Too Deep was nowhere near a big enough hit to be on the classics of the decade album, didn't it only go top 20? and it hardly hung around forever like Numb/Encore...there are loads of other rock anthems I reckon they'd be more inclined to pick from the same era, Nickelback for example... I'll give you Dido and Sugababes though :P but I still think they'd opt for one of the bigger hits like Push The Button or About You Now...I wonder if the Now 00's compilation (or any proper 00's hits compilation for that matter) will ever see the light of day :o

There's only one out at the moment and it's a budget compilation. I'd love to see maybe a "101 00's Hits" album, like the 90s one because that'd be fantastic, 5 discs of amazing memories

December 14, 200915 yr loads of artists have 2 or more defining tracks though - I could easily put Use Somebody on there as well as Sex On Fire and Just Dance as well as Poker Face, but I'd end up with only about 50 artists on there overall if I did that  I'm quite happy just having the most impacting song from each artist on there, makes it a more enjoyable listen than hearing the same act over and over I would argue there's a difference between BEPs against Lady GaGa and KoL, because BEPs' two monster hits (WITL and IGF) were years apart, whereas GaGa and KoL's two monster hits came close to each other. I think that makes a difference. I just feel WITL and IGF were defining hits of the eras they were released in, and that they are going to be remembered as two of the biggest hits of the decade.

April 2, 201015 yr For those that like their slightly ''obscure'' hits collections: http://www.amazon.co.uk/100-Essential-Trac...ks_all_1#disc_1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-2000s-Var...ks_all_1#disc_1
April 3, 201015 yr No Agnes   Release Me is, although not a HUGE hit, was a big hit and sold heaps for a Europop/dance track. I'd also say it's in the top 10 of the most remembered songs of 2009 too... I don't know anyone who DOESN'T know the words to it
April 3, 201015 yr 'feel good inc' over 'clint eastwood'. Of course. It's miles better. It's a representative list but unfortunatly alot of overplayed tripe is present at the expense of good stuff purely because people will remember overplayed tripe and may never have even heard the good stuff. Personally I'd have Muse, Doves, Bloc Party on it.

April 4, 201015 yr Author No Delta :o I'm with Sprial on the inclusion of Freak over AYN Nah, they're not personal favourites of the noughties, Delta didn't really have any hits that the average person will remember sadly :( As for Sugas, it was between Push The Button and About You Now, Freak was a milestone in their career but ultimately I don't think it will go down as 'classic' as those two
April 4, 201015 yr Freak Like Me is one of their best single releases, imo. But it'll be Push The Button that people would remember I think.

They are all pretty much Classics, and outside the uber loyal fanbase the one's most people know.

I know right :( Everyone should worship at the feet of Believe Again, or at least Innocent Eyes seeing as that was a top ten hit here! I know what you mean, they had a lot of defining classic hits, but I think there'd be uproar if Stronger/Ugly was put on a 'definitive noughties' compilation over Push The Button/About You Now, as good as they all are, seeing as the latter were big #1's which are literally never off the radio even now.

Average Person doesn't know what they are missing, Believe Again deserves to be worshipped. yeah, there'd be a bit of a mini backlash, but Round Round and Freak you'd get away with. The first for really kick starting their career and the 2nd for being everywhere when it was released and still quite popular now. AYN still makes appearances in the top100 airplay, it's knocked up like 100weeks in it.
April 4, 201015 yr I hope you don't mind, but these are changes that I'd personally make. :heehee: 11. Suagababes-About You Now - I'd change it to 'Push The Button'. 12. Westlife-You Raise Me Up - I can't think of many 'massive' Westlife songs, except that Mandy had a big release. 17. Lily Allen-Smile - I'd replace this with 'The Fear'. 21. Will Young-Evergreen - 'Leave Right Now'? [LOVE CD 2. The tracklist flows perfectly!] 10. Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars - I know this was massive, but I think in years to come people will be remembering 'Run'. 7. Destiny’s Child-Survivor - 'Loose My Breath' or 'Independent Women' are more popular choices imo. 11. Black Eyed Peas-I Gotta Feeling - I'd include 'Where Is The Love'. 2. Justin Timberlake-SexyBack - 'Cry Me A River' is a decent one. 4. Anastacia-Left Outside Alone - I'd swap this for 'I'm Outta Love'. 17. La Roux–In For The Kill - I personally wouldn't include this. 20. Shayne Ward-That’s My Goal - Or this one either. ^ Hope that's not too annoying of me. :heehee:

I think it could live without Shayne Ward and maybe La Roux. I definitely wouldn't swap I Gotta Feeling for Where Is The Love or Chasing Cars for Run. Sugas it could have been either one really so I agree with you there to an extent. As for Will, I know Leave Right Now is more of a 'classic' I guess but it would feel odd to snub the biggest seller of the decade. Still, I partly agree with you on that too. Obviously it's not perfect and some choices could be argued where artists have 2 or 3 'defining singles'.

April 4, 201015 yr Author And I can agree with that ^ ;D AS IF 'Evergreen' is the biggest song of the decade. By quite some margin it was the biggest seller, it sold 1.7 million! Twice as big as most of the rest of the huge noughties sellers.
August 20, 20177 yr Not to make anyone feel old, but it has been almost 10 years since this thread was started. I went searching for it after coming across my CDRs (now I DO feel old) where I had burned my final list. Thought it might be interesting to see if we still agree with all of our inclusions, and if there were any thing we missed now that a bit of time has passed. Perhaps we could even discuss a possible tracklist (or playlist??) for the 2010s
