Posted March 15, 200817 yr Based on the idea of the Retail Shops: The Physical Single thread, let's spin this round a little Which format would you prefer, physical or download. How could you save the Physical from dying totally, I just think the physical is slowly losing sight forever. In my opinion I prefer the Physical as you get some extras, and the packaging looks much neat rather than downloading a track through the web, I just find the singles charts is about 75% all downloads. If the singles chart was a physical chart only, I bet sales wise, its hardly registrating mountain sales.
March 15, 200817 yr I will always prefer the physical format! I like to have the acutal cd and the the extra remixes/b sides etc that you get with singles. I think that the pricing for cd singles would need to be reduced. But one thing i did notice is, in most shops now like hmv etc they dont have the singles in an easily accessible place, they are normally in some box stand or in a out of sight corner. If the shops put all the singles out the way they used to and advertised them then maybe more people would notice them and they would acutally get sold.
March 15, 200817 yr yeah i started to notice downloads are growing more popular and unfortunately era of physical releases is slowly going down... even if we take 2006 as an example!
March 15, 200817 yr Downloads :P I can choose which tracks I want and no need to buy a single where I only listen to the radio edit and one more remix or the extra track.
March 15, 200817 yr physical, can't be accidentally deleted when a PC blows up  for one. And there's something about holding and feeling a CD. The only time I've ever downloaded is exclusive iTunes tracks/remixes from GA.
March 15, 200817 yr You can copy the songs from your pc to a CD/DVD anytime and you can design your own cover so you don't have to pay for the original covers and boxes. Sometimes they look awful anyway. I like though special boxes/Box sets but they are exclusive and limited editions anyway.
March 15, 200817 yr I like physical albums but downloads for singles. A lot of the time I don't listen to remixes unless they're really good - the Freemasons remix of 'Work' for example - but then again, I don't listen to the original of that particular song. I just think that physical singles are too expensive, £2.99 or £3.99 for a few songs is quite a lot, especially when it's not unusual for an album to cost £8 or less these days. You could buy an alum for the cost of about two physical singles. I will go out and buy Leona's single though for the B-Side, but only because it's not on iTunes to download.

If the singles chart was a physical chart only, I bet sales wise, its hardly registrating mountain sales. actually i find the singles chart 75% of whats being played on airplay over and over again  - easier to just record it off the hits. You can copy the songs from your pc to a CD/DVD anytime and you can design your own cover so you don't have to pay for the original covers and boxes. but isnt that just a waste of time making your own covers(unless if your a design student and then i suppose its got a purpose)?
March 15, 200817 yr Downlaods - theyre cheaper, and plus they make the chart a lot more interesting- before downloads were added to the top 40 it was really boring, a song would enter at 3 for example and that would be its peak, after that it'd just drop - the chart was basically all new entries and fallers! x
March 15, 200817 yr but isnt that just a waste of time making your own covers(unless if your a design student and then i suppose its got a purpose)? You are right. It is just an opportunity. I wouldn't do that
March 15, 200817 yr Download without paying. lol me either!! haha Edited March 15, 200817 yr by smile_paul
March 15, 200817 yr When it comes to Singles I like Downloads because it's cheaper and just easier to get. Albums I like the physical as it's nice having the booklet :)
March 15, 200817 yr physical of course... there's nothing like the touch of an album or single.... usually i still buy the same albums or single physically even if i have them on downloads, it's way better to be able to touch and feel the CD and enjoy its cover.... the only way to make CD Singles popular again is to forbid illegal downloading and to make them a bit cheaper and more accessible (ex: at supermarkets, malls, candy shops....)
March 15, 200817 yr I much prefer physical. I've never downloaded anything! (except for songs that have just come out on the radio and i want straight away in which case i download them illegally but pay for the physical format anyway most of the time in the end!) I'd NEVER download an album. I just love holding it in my hands after I've bought it and looking at my collection at home  Maybe I'm just a bit sad though! :P
March 15, 200817 yr I download singles, but I will always try and get the physical copy when it comes to albums.
March 15, 200817 yr I very very rarely legally download a track, only if I'm unable to illegally get a decent version. :P I only really buy singles these days if they're by my favourite artists and to keep up a collection, or if I really want it. Occasionally I'm unable to illegally download a decent version of a song and I see the single and think "might as well, it's only £1.99 and I can rip it to my computer". All this talk of illegally downloading may seem bad, but I do buy albums. :P
March 15, 200817 yr i think that the only way to revive the CD single is to make it a DVD single with a video and interview... caus' it's harder to download a video than a music file....
